2x10 cabs.

Re: 2x10 cabs.

You know I like to mix speakers , thats why my rig is a 2 x10 combo with a 2x12 cab underneath it. I still want to make a cab with 2 10,12 and 15s in it best of all worlds in one giant box !

Re: 2x10 cabs.

I wonder what a cab with a mix of 10's and 12's is like?

My sentiments echo Ryan's. I don't imagine that you want to lose the beautiful thump of your Hovercraft, now do you?

Nah, homie. I just found a killer deal and figured I'd run the DRRI through it since the jensen speaker in the combo is garbage.

Re: 2x10 cabs.

a 4 speaker cab with 10s and 12s in it is a great sound. I have used a couple that were built like that , that is where I got the idea for the 6 speaker monster from.

Re: 2x10 cabs.

Open or closed back?
Mixing them up (10's and 12's)
Mixing up open AND closed back.

Sooo many variables. And soo many different music styles (which may or may not fit with a certain speaker configuration)
It's not as straight forward as many people think it is.

Re: 2x10 cabs.

played a peavey classic 50 4x10 combo yesterday at a jam.

Nice sounding amp. Did not care for the 10s though. They are quite clear/articulate and bright/chimey, like everyone said.

But they are incapable of dishing out the thump. No punch, no growl or OOMPH.

I'll take 12s any day.

IME, that's the voicing of that amp and the EL-84s...not the speaker configuration.

Re: 2x10 cabs.

the more you mix drivers, the more phasing issues

why go with 10s when you could go with 12s? if weight is an issue I recommend neodymiums

I like the idea of 15"s if you had more wattage!

I'll let you know as soon as I find one of these bad boys:

Re: 2x10 cabs.

I will have to set the Prosonic on the Marshall cab sometime for you to hear , I want a 2 x 15 cab !

Re: 2x10 cabs.

I have two Avatar 2x10 cabs with Greenback 10s for use with a Trinity 18 (Marshall 18 clone), closed back, and it is it for the types of tones and crunch that you would associate with pre early 80s Marshall/Greenback sound. Punchy, and it cuts through in the mix. Very happy! Easier to haul than 12s also.

Most of my prior experience was with 12s, but I hear no reason to look back.
