2x15 Cabs?

Re: 2x15 Cabs?

your Prolly gonna have to go vintage Peavey, Sunn or Fender. Teisco also made a 2x15 i'm on the lookout for. Townshend played out of 2x15 JBL loaded cabs. Fender JBl loaded 2x15 Cabs were also used extensively. Peavey I had a 2x15 for guitar which you could find on the cheap. I like the OOP EV Force 15 speakers in a 2x15. Don't try and use a bass cab. The tone will suck.

Re: 2x15 Cabs?

What about avatar or ted weber? Have you checked with either of them?

There are also some small cab builders on eBay you could take a look at.

Re: 2x15 Cabs?

Emperor, they aren't as high as you'd think.

You can use a bass cab, just pull out most of the foam/insulation and maybe plug ports.

Apart from that, an old Bassman cab might work. Or I think I saw something recently about Randall making them too?

I bet one of these things would sound incredible along with a regular 4x12".

Re: 2x15 Cabs?

Those Electric Amps are freakin' pricey.

The Emperor stuff is beautiful, though.

Re: 2x15 Cabs?

You get what you pay for.

Yeah, man. Don't get me wrong, they're a thing of absolute beauty. I just didn't really know much about them as a company so I wasn't really expecting to see a price of $4,500 for a stack.

That and the OP mentioned looking for something affordable. :p

Re: 2x15 Cabs?

I used an old Fender Showman cab for years. Amazing clean sounds but when using distortion there always seemed to be frequencies missing in the midrange that 12" have but 15"s don't.

I'll admit that I focused on the 2x15 part more than the affordable part....:butkick:

Re: 2x15 Cabs?

How would you guys rate an oversize 2x12 vs a 2x15?

I've only used a 1x15 before, but I've read up on them since. They're a little smoother sounding than a 12. Very nice for cleans but when used with distortion they tend to be missing a whole bunch of frequencies that a 12 would normally produce, thus sound kind of off in a scooped sort of way.

It's probably why you don't see many 'metal' dudes use 15s without a set of 12s accompanying them.

Re: 2x15 Cabs?

I had an avatar 2x15... it was evil... but like everyone else has said... 12s are kinda better, or at least you need the combo.
