3 guitars you must own... what would they be?

A salesman at a local music store onve told me that he thinks that he thinks that most guitarists must own 3 guitars (at least)- a Strat, a Les Paul and a shredding guitar like a Jackson or an Ibanez.

I'm not really into Super Strat and pointy guitars... I don't even try them anymore when I'm in a store... so my choice would be different: a Strat (with a good trem), a Tele and my Nighthawk (yeah I'm in love with this one).

What would be your choice - for 3 guitars that would handle most of your needs?


And of course, I want more then 3 axes... I want a radical guitar just to look good on stage and a semi hollow, well, because I have been jazzing.. but I don't really need them... :smokin:

My Strat, a Les Paul, and either a Gretsch hollowbody or a Telecaster.

My tele for the single coil giggles (scratchy scratchy)...

My Charvel with two hummers and a maple neck/trem for all the versatility it has to offer (I wish it was Hum-Sing-Sing)...

And a Les Paul for the lines I really want to leave hanging in the ears of anyone listening.

For me, to cover the most styles I play: Les Paul, SG, Strat (SG being for the purpose of slide)

Fender Stratocaster.
Ibanez JEM or Jackson/Charvel/Kramer alternative superstrat.
A Les Paul.

I'd say Les Paul, Strat and Tele - I don't need a shred-monster.

I've got it wrong at the moment by owning two Les Pauls, a Strat and no Tele. There's no way I'm giving up one of the LPs, so I'm going to have to wait for the stars to align correctly for a Tele to get in under Mrs_F's guitar radar. How's that for mixed metaphors?

For me personally;

A Gibson Les Paul
A High End Acoustic Guitar....preferably a Taylor
A Gibson SG Junior


I could play any gig or record any guitar I needed with those.

A semi hollow most definately. I get by just fine without a LP and I don't have a very high opinion of strats. I say the only guitars you need to get by are a semi-hollow body and a brighter sounding guitar. I could see a use for a LP though too.

I would say a Telecaster, a Les Paul and a Strat.

Hmm. My Lite Ash Stratocaster (already own it), a Les Paul with the hot rodded combo, and an Ovation guitar (already own one). However, my needs are different than most people's. Beyond that, however, I wouldn't mind owning a "shredding" guitar though, like a Jackson Warrior with the Full Shred / Invader combination....

2 Strats, one with an OFR (H-S config) and one without (S-S-S config), and a Martin D-28.

a Lester, Tele w/ mid p'up, and an EB/MM axis..

That's my current three and im happy, but the axis is an olp, so upgrading to an EB is in the future
