3 string tree

Anybody use or recommend a 3 string tree?

The Tele I'm borrowing and will probably end up buying needs a sharper break angle on the G. I put more wraps than I normally prefer on it, but it still sounds a little wonky unless I press down behind the nut. My Strat doesn't seem to have the same issue, even with only one string tree. The Strat has vintage style tuners, where the end of the string goes down into the post, while the Tele has modern style Fender tuners (string through the post horizontally). I'll eventually swap the Tele's tuners for vintage style, but in the meantime, a string tree that caught all 3 plain strings seems like it'd be helpful.

If I replace the tuners, I’m going with the vintage style ones. Aside from preferring the look, I take strings on and off a lot, and they allow you to do so without breaking them.

Also, I really don’t like locking tuners.

What about having the nut checked out/replaced/recut? If by "wonky sounding" you mean slight buzz or sitar like sound on the open string then I'd say the slot is worn/badly cut. Or maybe you could try the superglue method. Never did it myself and seems like a short term fix to me, but sounds useful to isolate the problem.

That was my first thought as well.

The first thing to do would be to fix that nut. Even if you put on a 3 string tree, if the nut is worn you'll still have a bad sounding/functioning nut.

I’m pretty sure the nut isn’t the problem. The break angle is too shallow. Plenty of Fender guitars have two trees, I’m just trying to use a more elegant solution rather than drilling another hole in the headstock.

Add a second tree.

That's what 70's Fender Strats have.

On a Tele I'd use a second Tele style string tree if I really needed one.

You know, the round one.

That'd look the most "right" if you're going to do it.

I've never needed too. Or needed two.

But speaking of Teles, I like the looks of this one: Bruce Springsteen on SNL. Looks like Bruce is still using the Barden Tele pickups.
