3 way switch in middle. Lower the neck all the way, the bridge goes out. vice versa

Re: 3 way switch in middle. Lower the neck all the way, the bridge goes out. vice ve

I would expect the "independent volume" wiring to reverse the audio taper of the volume pots because you are swapping the input and output lugs, but the audio taper ramp does not get swapped with it, so I would expect the guitar to suddenly turn up but have a lot of travel on the volume pot with little/no effect.

Can anyone who now has, or in the past has done, "independent volume" wiring speak in greater detail about the side affects of this change?

Not a problem. It's Fig. 1 VS Fig. 2:

The taper is still at the "top". Notice, however, with figure 1, if either volume is taken all the way down, you ground the output jack. In figure 2, you don't, but you alter the pickup's "load". (And thus, its voice.)

I'll tell you what... you guys know your stuff... I'm going to try the independent wiring tonight when I get home and let everyone know.

Question though, GuitarDoc mentioned to move the cap over from the outer lug on the volume pots to the center lug volume pots. But at the same time, Artie, your original diagram is stating to connect the pickups to the center lug and the tone switch to the outer lug (originally where the pickup was connected)... with all this being said, the cap and pups should be on the center lug together... correct?

Sorry for the newb questions, I'm just trying to narrow this down and this / you guys have been the best resource that I've been able to find. Keeping in mind that I don't know squat about electronics. :newbie:

The one thing that I don't understand, is why on the wiring diagrams that I was given with the replacement POTS and SH-1 59's, do they have it wired that way and not for independent wiring. My Epi Dot originally was independent, the Les Paul copy I have also has it, every other LP, SG etc (2 hum, 2 vol, 2 tone, 3 way switch) I've played was setup with "Independent Wiring".

Anyway, thanks again everyone and I'll let you know how I make out.

Steve
