3 way toggle switch (middle position)

Just a quick querie guys, the middle position on gibson style 3 way pickup selector toggle switches, does it select both pickups in series or parallel?

if I were to split/unsplit both pickups with 1 push/pull then select the middle position, would it be the equivelent of 2 single coils in parallel? (and also therefor humbucking)

Or would I have to series/parallel them individually before selecting the middle position?

I'm sure artie spoke about a way of wiring the middle position to select the adjustable coils of each pickup in parallel together, that sounds kinda cool, but I cant find the thread.

Cheers.

Parallel.

Normally when I split humbuckers I will select one screw post and one stud post so the pair remains hum cancelling.

I see, so stud_neck + stud_bridge together will not be hum-cancelling? & the same for a pair of screw sides?

Re: 3 way toggle switch (middle position)

I checked the spliting refresher in the vault but actually, i'm slightly confused now.

normal/slug coil splitting is [RED+WHITE=push/pull - GREEN+BARE=ground - BLACK=switch]

adjustable coil is [GREEN+BLACK=push/pull - WHITE+BARE=ground - RED=switch]

I'm just confused as to wether I need to put the red straight to switch in the adjustable or ground it or continue the connection from the green/black point.

Re: 3 way toggle switch (middle position)

Green and bare is always ground, and black is always hot to the switch. The difference between selecting stud or screw coil is whether to have the red/white combo switched to green, (stud coil), or switched to black, (screw coil).

Make sense? I'll post a better pic when I get home from work.
