40 Watt-Fender Mustang II: any good?

Hi guys, I'm looking for opinions and tips from ACTUAL OWNERS of this amp, specially the computer-savvy ones using the FUSE software.

Is it enough for small gigs with a not-so-gentle drummer?

Is that 12" speaker good enough in the clean dept or does it need to be changed to do the part?

Are the knobs enough to on-the-fly tweaks, or you just gotta have a computer on-stage?

I'm all ears! ;)

I knew it wouldn't be long before they were naming tone-generating software after me

Re: 40 Watt-Fender Mustang II: any good?

I'm not sure that naming it after a revamped Pinto with better looking body styling is a good idea.

i haven't bought one but i like the crap out of them

sound quality and volume are there...if you're micing it to the PA it'll do fine as your stage monitor.

haven't used the software; the knobs on top are more than enough to dial in what i'd wana use it for tho.

Well, looks like there isn't that much unconditional love for this little amp here.

However, considering the price, I just got one.

The first half hour with it through the FUSE software, I've been able to dial-in some nice clean FENDER sounds. And this is my first experience with an amp modeler that the sound with the speaker emulation is BETTER than without!

I'll be reporting later on, but as a first impression, it looks like a winner to me. You can take this amp with you everywhere without even noticing, so light this thing is. I, for one, am VERY grateful! ;)

Not tried this new line. I anticipate it being a sort of "trickle down" version of the Cyber Twin that a friend of mine owned. Good cleans. Acceptable full-on rippy distortions. Not so good at those "verge of break up" sounds at which valve amps excel.

I look forward to hearing the Pepe Report. :)

Re: 40 Watt-Fender Mustang II: any good?

I've just decided the 2x12C speaker emulation is the best sounding one.

Back to try other models, I've been only tweaking the Twinreverb; I've got a killer clean preset.

Later on, when my presents will be road tested, I'll share'em in the community.

Re: 40 Watt-Fender Mustang II: any good?

Tried one in a music store yesterday. Certainly, a step beyond the Fender Cyber Twin/Deluxe generation of amp modelling and, IMO, of the Roland COSM amplifiers. Some models are more convincing than others.

There is a guy in my area who can never decide whether he wants a combo for playing in a band or a POD clone for home recording. The Mustang II amplifier appears to answer both requirements.

Re: 40 Watt-Fender Mustang II: any good?

Using the FUSE software, I've discovered the interaction of the SAG and BIAS controls.

If you set the SAG at minimum and the BIAS at maximum all presets that were "wimpy" come to life in any amp model present. This setting makes this little amp behave like a tube amp... to my surprise.

I'm quite happy with this thingy... a lot of fun and even GREAT USEABLE sounds come out of it.

Mind you, it's NOT going to make me sell my all-tube boutique amp any time soon, but I've start to think that this was the best investment I've made in a long time...

When I learn how to save the presets and download'em to the Fender Mustang II Community site, I'll be sharing'em with everybody. Until then, have fun with it.

The Vox Valvetronix get a lot of love around here (for modeling amps at least)...anyone care to comment on how these compare to the Vox series?
