I've been looking everywhere and can't find a 44mm nut for my old squier tele, the closest I could find are 43mm. Do you think that would be ok? Assuming it's centred, the nut slot would only be 1/2 a mm too big on each side which doesn't seem that bad to me. what do you guys think?

Just get a 1-3/4 inch nut. That's 44 and a half millimeters. It's a common size, and it's better to start out wider than you need, rather than narrower.

Thanks for the reply. The only 1 3/4 one I can find is the graphtech one and that particular size is harder to find in the UK :/ I'll keep looking, thanks

I can't find any 1 3/4 nuts in the UK, would a 43mm work in a pinch whist I wait for a 1-3/4 one from the usa? they are in abundance on eBay and would like to use the guitar this weekend.

You'll probably be just fine with 43 mm if that's all you can get. I don't see a need to import a nut from overseas just to give you an extra millimeter.

Agreed. It's probably what was on there to begin with.
