4x12 cab to match with the Jubilee

Hey fellow jubilee owners, what cabinet do you use with the head? I have the 2555 100 watt head. I usually have the lead master dimed and the output master on 8 to get it hot. I think this head really needs to be turned up to reach its best drive sound.
I wanted to get a used marshall with some 25 watt greenback but wasnt sure if running a 100 watt head into a 100 watt able cab would be doable. I don't feel like having to deal with blown speakers, etc. What I was thinking was that if I ran it on the 50 watt option with the greenbacks I'd be in the clear.

tons of classic albums were recorded with the 100 watt Greenback speaker cabs being pushed heavy with a 100 watt Marshall head... that is part of that old sound.... But i too would prefer less speaker break up myself..

I am torn here - some guys can you need speaker cone break up and others say you dont.
Zakk for example uses a 100 watt head and cabs rated at 800 watts! His speakers must not even flinch.
Would pushing those cones hard with a 100 watt rated cab cause the cones to blow? Or would they just add to the distorted tones?

PS-i wonder what the stock speakers were in the Silver cabs.... 75 watters?

I think they were either 65 watters or 70 watters in those cabs.
I am currently using cabs with vintage 30s.

if that's the case i bet the amp itself would dye before Zacks cabs.... but i'm no expert.... I use 2 cabs with various heads, a 150watt Marshall 1x12 and a 5150 4x12.... my 5150 head thru the 1x12 has been pushed to the limits!!!! i think i damaged the speaker a little myself... The 2204 thru the same 1x12 cab sounds stiff to me... It's not a good match for the 2204... But i have pushed it extremely hard with my 5150 a few times.. That 150 watt speaker was moving some serious air!!!!! I'm sure Zack's speakers move but are heavy duty so they last night after night

with the 5150 GREAT!!!!! i have yet to really crank the snot out of the 800 head... i have played thru that 1x12 cab and the tone is not great for that Marshall head. Not bad but not great.... That 1x12 cab works wonders for my Clean sound, a C 50 head..... Once i get the head back from repairs i'll blast it.... This week i'll drop the marshall off for repair... needs to have the extra gain stage removed. too noisey

I called the amp shop on venture in the valley for them to check the bias on my jubilee and told me it be like a 3 week wait. i have no patience! good luck with your wait

the guy i want to use is a legend around here but the wait is 2-3 months sometimes... i'll just get teh local shop to send it out to their guy for now and see if i can a hold of the other guy this summer to look over the amp...

i wouldnt mind waiting if they were servicing or modding the amp but to check the bias? 3 weeks seems too long.

Let me make sure I'm getting this straight- you're running a 100w Marshall at 8 into a 4x12 in a live setting?

Do soundmen, your bandmates and the audience in the front hate you?

Seriously, I'm all about ridiculous volume for tone's sake, but there's a point to where running a 100w amp at 8 is just too much. I'll run my 50w+4x12 in the neighborhood of 2 and that's a comfy stage volume for both the guys in the band and the soundman.

If there are complaints its that its not loud enough!!!!
A thd hot plate is good for the tone the volume produces and for the volume you need live.
Brad from Aerosmith does that in his rig - runs its wide open and use the thd as a master volume of sorts.
Another thing on the jubilee is the half power switch which rolls of some more volume.

I like the Jubilee with Vin 30's, and would love to hear it with a crisscross of Vin 30/H30. I've never heard it with Greenbacks.

The guy you're talking about at the Amp Shop.....that's Alan Cyr, right?
That guy really knows Marshalls. He's the guy who modded a killer 71 Superbass I used to have. He's also the guy who I took my Jubilee to when it died one time. He said there's a design problem with Jubilees, whereby they used coupling capacitors that weren't high enough wattage, so he changed them to better ones. I don't know if it effected the sound in any way though.

I am currently running the jubilee with a bogner 4x12 vintage 30s. But those speakers are rated @ 65 watts a piece.
I just wanted to have the amp shop check the bias of the jubilee since I got it in a trade a month or two ago.
Pretty sweet trade IMHO - ibanez universe and Epip ZW for the jubilee

I run my JMP 2203 into the 4x12 100 watt greenback loaded cab, granted thats only 50 watts, but the speaker breakup adds so much warmth. Love it. By far the best cab for a Marshall as far as I am concerned.

Truth... speaking for myself i had some trouble with soundmen and fellow band members when i used the 4x12.... I could not hear myself that well as the 4x12 was blowing past my legs and killing the front rows and i kept turning it up... That is way i started to use the same heads but with the 1x12 Marshall cab as it was less boom.... and to help stop me from over doing the volume i started to tilt the 1x12 back like a monitor so it was pointed at my head... This was a great set up while i was in a band... towards the end i even started to use a 30 watt C30 combo with a few pedals more often...

i did find i had call for that 4x12 rig a few times... i played some outdoor shows with crappy monitors and my amp was hardly miced.... so i would have to pump the hell out of it to be heard out front...

On most modern bars stages a 50 watt head is over kill by miles... but it is a hell of a lot of fun...
