4x12 cabinet powered by 15W head?

I have the opportunity to pick up a Marshall 4x12 cabinet for very cheap but the only head I have is a Marshall MG 15W mini stack head to use on it. With the 2 10" speakers that amp is very bassy. Would it be even more so with the 4x12? I usually only play at bedroom levels and I use a pedal for my whole sound pretty much. Its a great deal on the cab that would be a shame to pass up but if its gonna be useless I may as well not buy it.

You can power a 4x12 with less. There's a DIY amp called a Cricket that produces about 2w and it can get the speakers moving on a 4x12.
pull dat trigger, xpaulpitt.

YUP, a 15W def can !

Even a 0.5W zvex nano head can power a 4X12 cab !

MORE speakers always sounds bigger.
My Blues Jr sounded (((HUGE))) into a 4X12.

I run my 13 watt Fender Excelsior through my 4x12 and it sounds great. Go for it.

I'd say it's unanimous, now you HAVE to get that cab! :approve:

Seriously, get that cab.

Re: 4x12 cabinet powered by 15W head?

What Marshall cab? And how cheap?

They are not all created equal. I am sure the mg will sound better through any 12" speakerbut it may not be worth it, if it is an inexpensive old VS or MG line cab. You may be better off grabbing a higher quality 2x12 with high quality speakers.

I once ran my vypyr 15 (temporaily rigged the leads to the speaker into a 1/4' plug) through a 412 and it rattled windows and other stuff in the room with the master on '2'. Sounded Great

Its a 1960 Angled for $300. Perfect condition and supposedly only 10 years old. Originally I was going to get an MG cab when a friend told me about this one. The seller is his cousin and he thinks he is selling it to him, hence the price. I still might get the MG cab at a later time. I really like the looks of the new Carbon Fiber ones and since my head is also MG they should sound good together. Then I can save up and get a tube head for that 1960 cab. Gonna go pick it up this weekend.

even if it needs a good wash, i would think 300 is a good price on this cab

Go for it. That will be fun. I record little amps with 4x12" cabs more than never.

Re: 4x12 cabinet powered by 15W head?

you could do it but more watts is betta for more dynamics

also, 412 is annoying cause it dont fit in small cars like a toyota corrolla, and you can hurt ur back cause its so big and bulky

The amount of force placed on your back under certain conditions can be surprising. Anytime you bend or lean over to pick something up, you put tremendous pressure on your lower back.

To demonstrate this, think of your back as a lever. With the fulcrum in the center of the lever, how many pounds would it take to lift a ten pound object?

When you add in the 105 pounds of the average human upper torso, you see that lifting a ten pound object actually puts 1,150 pounds of pressure on the lower back. In my line of work I have seen A TON of serious low back injuries. I lift correctly and use a back brace when lifting this bulky item. More than one million workers suffer back injuries account annually, and these account for one in five workplace injuries (Bureau of Labor Statistics). 80% of these injuries are to the low back (lumbar spine). Back injuries cost the US economy billions of dollars each year. I am glad I do not have one, I would settle for a little less or more tone with neodymium speakers; I just want to avoid getting any back injury ;)

MINIMIZING RISKS is why I want speakers that weigh 15 pounds less http://www.ehs.okstate.edu/modules3/back/A1-Back.htm
