4x12 cabinet powered by 15W head?

Re: 4x12 cabinet powered by 15W head?

my 18W Tubemeister sounds monstrous through a 4x12, so yes.

Re: 4x12 cabinet powered by 15W head?

Yes, it will work and it will be plenty loud. Like another person said, however, a 4x12 is a beast to move around. I suggest getting a single 12 inch cab for your head. The 12 inch is the right size speaker for a fully developed sound. Smaller speakers do not handle the low end as well.

Re: 4x12 cabinet powered by 15W head?

I'm playing through six 12 " speakers with my Tweaker 15 and it never sounded better.

Re: 4x12 cabinet powered by 15W head?

To echo the others, I love my Tiny Terror through a 4x12.

Re: 4x12 cabinet powered by 15W head?

I used to have a Marshall Lead 12 combo. I rigged the speaker cable so I could plug in to my 4x12 that I had at the time. That sucker sounded massive and kept up well in a band setting. I have a little DIY 1W amp I built some years back and it sounds pretty cool through my 2x12.

Re: 4x12 cabinet powered by 15W head?

Imho, though, a Marshall 1960 cab (assuming gt75 chinese speakers) just does not sound like 300 bucks... Or, rather, other stuff for 300 sounds soooo much better. Dont get sucked into brand name hype, those 1960 stacks rocking stadiums across the world are ALL loaded with V30s, Rola 12-65, etc etc, anything BUT the stock junk. Which, considering speaker prices vs used cab prices, literally means that the famed marshall cab has NOTHING in common w/ the 1960a/b's for all intents and purposes relating to your wallet (since a v30/rola 65/etc cab, marshall or otherwise, will ALWAYS be cheaper than buying a 1960 & reloading)

Now, if it's a Marshall JCM800/ 1960AB/ etc, that changes thinga

Re: 4x12 cabinet powered by 15W head?

I got it and I am very happy with it. He offered to let me have either cab for the same price so I got the straight one instead since its just gonna be in my bedroom and I will be sitting in front of it the majority of the time. Besides, I personally like the looks of a straight cab better. It sounds great too. I have to turn my little amp up more to get the same volume level that I usually play at, which is a good thing cuz I play at a fairly low volume and being able to turn it up seems to open up the amp more. I would have to respectfully disagree with the comment about getting something better for the price though. I shopped around quite a bit before getting this one and the build quality alone makes it much better than anything in the same price range, not to mention that it is in exquisite condition. I really don't have the time or resources to hunt down a good used cab with better speakers. I'm not to worried at the moment about loading it with premium speakers. I am not a professional musician and this is gonna be plenty for me for the next few years at least.

Cabinets are boxes. Like, literally. And Marshall's boxes are medium quality as boxes go (thin ply sides, some sort of fibreboard/MDF back) and YMMV on those gt75 speakers (though experienced folk tend to be horrified by em).

As to condition...Very few of the worst looking ones, even, have anything structurally wrong (now SPEAKER DAMAGE, that stuff is serious). And covering flaws up/painting/retolexing/recarpeting is pretty straightforward and simple, if its just a visual issue....cabinets today, used, are really only worth the speakers inside (at a bulk discount for buying 4 not 1). Or, $70-100 with worthless speakers / $40-50 empty

PS if you have "whatever works, dont care about speaker choice that much" mentality, a simple or unpopular 412 costs $100 used, at least near big cities in the USA. And, cosmetically, the near-invincible CARPET + METAL + METAL GRILLE combo on many 80s cabs (carvin x100b's matching, jacksons, etc.) are almost sure to always look better than the most babied of TOLEX + PLASTIC + CLOTH marshalls. Simply cuz theyre more durable by a long shot.

GOOD CALL ON GETTING THE STRAIGHT CAB THOUGH - cuz its stackable with anything and can go in either position, unlike most of the used stuff which is usually angleds. Probably the far better choice for future options...as long as it fits in your car, lol. cuz in my old bmw 328, angleds barely have half an inch to spare squeezing through the rear doors

right! Always interesting to see whether people buy stuff after they get great recommendations based on their specific question, and what they use it for.

I always wanted a 412 to to play "since its just gonna be in my bedroom and I will be sitting in front of it the majority of the time."
