500$ guitar suggestions

I recently had a flight related incident with a guitar and my partner suggested buying a guitar explicitly to leave over with her so I don’t have to risk this happening again,
So here’s my question what would recommend for 500 dollars and below for something to write with, practice with and generally enjoy that isn’t a cheap piece of junk.
Acoustic or electric
New or Used
All suggestions welcome.

My needs are preferences are slightly different, don’t mind floyds/pointy shapes am also mainly a metal player but do venture into blues rock and ambient guitar so would like a neck pickups.

I would think at that price, you really have a lot of choices. I'd check used, too, as you can get more guitar for your $.

Ive seen a lot of stuff just curious if there were any glowing recommendations, so far I’ve seen MIM strats, Washburn X50s, Couple Of EC-1000s, Gibson SGJs and specials, Ibanez SZ, Schecter C1s, Dean Vs (Korean Hardtails), Dean C450s, Ibanez RGTs, Gretsch Streamliner and Fender Showmasters
On the acoustic front I’ve been looking at cutaway acoustics so a short list is
Ibanez AEW, ovation stuff and a few guilds.

Look at used Godins, too, as you can find a well made North American guitar for that price with no need to upgrade anything.

+1 Godin

Also helped a buddy pick out a new $199 yamaha fg series, mini jumbo accoustic last week... Better than the $500 acoustics I had in 80s and 90s.

I might consider a used G&L Tribute Superhawk, given your price range and what you play. It's a good blues-to-metal guitar, and it's well within your budget. I absolutely love my Rampage (the single pickup version). It was such a huge amount of quality for the buck that I spent ($300 like new with original G&L gig bag).

Re: 500$ guitar suggestions

I also support Godins.

My favorite in that range would be a used Yamaha 611. Ridiculous value. Flat radius, duncans, locking Grovers.

Also worth checking the current MIM Charvel pro mods. Also duncans and locking tuners and a neck to die for. Floyd or hardtail.

Re: 500$ guitar suggestions

Play everything you can lay hands on and go with the one that speaks to you. PRS SE line has great bang for the buck as does the Schecter brand

Re: 500$ guitar suggestions

I know you said that your needs were slightly different than my thread, but I think a Tele (HH) I’m that range can go far, slap a Jazz in the neck and an C8 or Alt8 in the bridge and you got something good.

I’d also recommend a used prestige since you don’t mind the more metal style, they run about 500-600 from what I have seen.

I saw something about an EC-1000 up their, I would also say that’s great.

Just a jumbled list that would work for rock metal and blues; Hagstrom Swede, Ibanez Premium or Prestige, LTD’s, MIM Fenders, Fender Showmaster, PRS SE’s, and Schecters.

If you went used you really good do well and I wouldn’t be as huge of a deal if someone messed up the guitar on a plane.
