51' Nocaster project

Here are some update pictures. Got the pickguard and tuners came today. Nothing is screwed down yet. I put an equal amount of paper on each side of the neck to try and center it. Not sure if this looks right. Take a look.

P.s. ignore the control plate in the first pic. I don't have it in place. I do in the second one.

Re: 51' Nocaster project

Theres something about the way the pickguard is fitting up on the horn..makes me feel like something isn't straight.

Re: 51' Nocaster project

just cut a little off, that's all.

Cut exactly like a 51 would've been ;)

Re: 51' Nocaster project

You're worried dude. Bolt it all together and see what's going on. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Re: 51' Nocaster project

AHA! Glad i double checked. Thep ickguard wasn't fully up against the neck. Took care of the horn problem. Pickguard fits great...but...now the bridge is a little uneven on both sides..glad i caught that. Now what? lol. As if i needed more confusion.

Re: 51' Nocaster project

Should i drill holes in the neck as well?

That's part of boltin' 'er up.

I understand you're a little weary. Problems arise, but it's part of the fun. Like I was telling my buddy Brian, building's the simple part. It's the fixing that you get some real head scratchers, and it's a hard fix. But the hard's what makes it fun.

Measure twice, drill once.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Dan Erlewine's book "The Guitar Player's Repair Guide" is the most informative publication on the subject for average Joe's and players. It's not the most in depth book on the matter of repair, but it's all the regular guy needs and more. It will save you thousands of dollars in repair and setup costs, as well as unmeasurable amounts of stress.

Re: 51' Nocaster project

Everything seems like it turned out alright so far. Slotted screws are alot easier to put in...i used a hand drill and am pleased with my results. I am going to order a slotted screw kit for the rest of the nocaster in about a week. Things are winding down and it feels great. Whadya think?

Re: 51' Nocaster project

Beautiful looking project. +1 on the reverse control plates. I don't know why they don't make that the standard way of wiring them.

Re: 51' Nocaster project

This thing is gonna sound great when i hook the pickups up...

I'm going to eventually need to buy new tuners..these ones don't have slotted shafts. Which sucks because there's a 30$ set right now in the trading post..i feel so stupid!

Re: 51' Nocaster project

See if he's willing to swap. Ya never know.

So did you string her up last night, or what?

Re: 51' Nocaster project

Don't have a neck plate for her yet...coming soon..plus i need a nut shaped.

wow dude, you're slacking. J/K, let's see how it all turns out whenever everything's done.

PS: Always be sure to choose a reputable person to cut and shape the nut. It's quite possibly one of the most important jobs on a guitar, and most take it too lightly.

Re: 51' Nocaster project

Ok. So the neck plate came. I have yet to put it on for fear of possibly being off. I ordered a fender nut and shaped it myself. I'm going to have it professionally slotted though. So i'm waiting to do that. Ferrules came and i hammered those in. Tuning pegs are all set up and bolted on. And everything is screwed down with vintage style slotted screws. I'm gettin there.

To do list:

Strap lock purchase and set up.
Nocaster decal purchase and application.
Pickup purchase and installation.

Not far. Not far.
