that looks great!!!! how does the light work? battery?

Very cool! I like it. But I have two very minor criticisms:

Call Peavey parts dept. and get them two missing knobs. :D
It cheapens up all the work you did.

The blue light almost makes it look like you're copying Hughes & Kettner. Try red or green. Or even better . . . make it a "blacklight". ;)

But, regardless . . . nice job.

I'll get those dern knobs eventually. Money is an issue right now. I had to spend a lot more than I wanted on getting the rest of my rig up to par with the 5150 and getting a few more cords. You must black out the Attax in your mindddd. Blue is my trademark down here. Green looks stupid to me and blacklight won't show up. Myself and another guy are the only two I've seen that have this period.

****, that looks really, really cool! I've been considering doing something similar with mine, but not sure if I can bring myself to hack my head up a bit :(.

Did you just wire this into the power supply on the amp? How's it work? I see the LED strips behind the logo, but that's all I can tell - I can't see any wires protruding anywhere near where the strips are.

No hacking required. The front wood part is only stapled in, a few taps with a hammer n it'll come out. The lights are NOT LED. They are computer mod cold cathode lights wired into a wallwart that sits inside the amp with another cord coming out of it that plugs in on a strip.

Re: 5150 is finished, branded with my own touch

Too bad Peavey didn't do that from the get go. It's just what that amp needed to look cooler.

Peavey parts are cheap....heck, it might even be cool to check out antique music supply and see if they have royal blue chickenhead knobs for a couple bucks more.

If I were you, I'd use a foot long piece of extension cord and hardwire it from the light to the two terminals on the back of the ON switch......then when you turn it on, the light also comes on. Just drill a little hole in the top of the chassis, if there's no way to feed it through. You might be able to squeeze it through the same hole the tranny wires go through.

after showing this to my bass player, he wants to do this to his 5150 also. He actually plays bass through his, and it sounds real good too!!

I really like that. Any noise issues? (Seems like they have the possibility of creating some sort of interference that close to the tubes)

With cold cathode's there's no problems since they are made to go in computers without interfering with anything. Otherlights, yes, probably would.

That looks totally awesome.

I like it... a lot!

I have similar plans for a project I'm working on. I went to a local electronics store (not a chain store - mom&pop) and they said they had an assortment of chassis lighting devices that would work in this kind of situation (no broadcast RF to interfere with the electronics).

You inspire me!

Re: 5150 is finished, branded with my own touch

I've been wanting to take out the wood front panel too but considering it actually strengthens the box, I'm just going to leave it.

Would be sweet to get a dremel out and do a patern cut in the wood though!

Maybe like ( ( ( 5150 ) ) ) or something. That would look especially cool then with lighting.

Heck even doing | | | 5150 | | | would look cool.
