5150II Clip

Re: 5150II Clip

Thats amp's distortion has a real nice sound about it. Whats the guitar/pickups you used?

Re: 5150II Clip

I say go back to the original. That has the characteristics of a 5150II, scratchy topendish gain and not as punchy.

Re: 5150II Clip

I'd say any shortcomings in that clip were from either the fact that I used the same settings I always used on my old 5150, or that I didn't bother with adjusting the mic position from last time.

That said, I think this is the best recorded tone I've ever gotten.

I'll decide whether or not I'll be keeping it in the next couple of days. I'm meeting with a new drummer today, so I'll give it a run at band levels, and I can always just return it, since they did send me the wrong amp.

Schecter C-1 Stealth w/EMG85 into Maxon OD808, 5150II was through a Mesa Oversized 4x12.

It's funny, actually...

I opened the box, was all stoked from the bottom/top of the amp as I pulled it out, set it aside, and then saw a three button, metal footswitch... and I realized they sent me a 5150II. I was pretty pissed - I honestly haven't spent a ton of time with the II's, but I knew how they were voiced differently. Buut, I was curious, so I tested it out, and so far, I dig it.

Either way, I got a mint condition 5150II for $650. It won't be hard making a profit off of that one.

Re: 5150II Clip

KEEP THIS ONE.

You know this is the tone you've been after all along. Despite it not being the perfect settings for this amp, the clip sounds fantastic. Congrats!

Re: 5150II Clip

haha, all those times i thought i possibly had the "wrong" amp because of your un-love for the 5150 2, and now you like it! I instantly loled when i saw this thread. PMs sound a little loose definately, but i do like the tone.

Re: 5150II Clip

I'm at work on a computer with 1 crappy speaker, and it still sounds brutal! When we were talking about the 5150 II's and 6505+, I wasn't agreeing with the slams of those vs. the 5150/6505. I really love my 6505+, it's just mean! Great sounding clip. I really liked your JSX clips, too, but this one sounds heavier or more aggressive. Sounds like my 6505+. For what you paid, I'd be keeping that thing. Nice work.
