5150IIIS EL34 announced from EVH

Re: 5150IIIS EL34 announced from EVH

I predict these will be hot sellers

:omg::omg::omg:

*scratches head*

Observation:

For someone who has zero interest in Ed's tone and tells others here (in essence) who do have that interest that, "nobody cares about his tone" or, "why bother?", you sure do exhibit a lot of interest in Ed-related gear.

It's okay... embrace the Halen and all that is Halenesque.

What are you talking about. I love ed's tone and I love (most) of his products

Re: 5150IIIS EL34 announced from EVH

Cool! I'd heard this was coming.

I wonder if it's a nod to the original VH Marshall tone, or how close it'll get.

When I think of 5150 amps, I think of something modern/high gain/Van Hagar/etc.

I'm guessing these don't replicate the original Marshall sound... but maybe they'll hit some sort of cool middle ground.

I do!!!

My thought with these tho.... Im sure it will sound cool, cuz the PVs sounded good when they came out with the EL34 one too.. But he made his orig magic with el34 amps, I always wonder why all his sig amps run 6l6s?? The ad says the EL34s allow greater sag. Now Im far from a tube expert, but I thought the 6l6s would provide more sag..?? I thought EL34s were tighter..??

If these sound killer, hopefully they will do a 50 watter! Im sure they will...

He went to 6l6's because the peavey 5150 was based off his favorite Soldano SLO

I couldn't care less about copying VH's tone. However, most of the stuff he puts his name on, the 5150 III stuff in particular and most recently, is really frigging good. That's the reason I'm interested.

Re: 5150IIIS EL34 announced from EVH

Personally lately I've been preferring my EL84 based EVH 5150 III LBX over my 6L6 based EVH 5150 III 50 watt, the LBX is less compressed, responds much better to a guitar's volume control and cleans up better- with a Les Paul's volume and tone controls you easily have a 4 channel amp with the LBX. The 50 watter doesn't clean up as well, though it does have a clean channel if you want cleans.

I'm hoping they come out with a 50 watt, though I suspect I'll still be happy with my LBX.

Remember this? Sure you do --->

OMG who the hell cares

and...

And this is why they are guitar gods and you're just posting your obsessions on an online forum. Everyone's tone is unique, thats what make us individuals. Maybe when we start we try to imitate our heros and such, but at some point we mature and develop our own sound/tone.....yes we may take someone else's as a groundwork and build upon that, but why are you so obsessed with sounding like someone else? You won't ever sound or play like Ed, thats what makes Ed, Ed. Grow up

It's obvious from the above that you don't like ed's tone at all. "who the hell cares?" you say about it in that thread... hence my surprise.

So with those quotes of yours in mind, why would you bother to start a thread about a new EVH amp?

Are you a walking dichotomy?

Sag comes from the rectifier tube(s), not from power tubes. That's why amps with SS rectifier have zero sag when pushed. This is just marketing using wrong facts. Don't get me wrong, the amp should be great but this is just wrong info/hype.

Re: 5150IIIS EL34 announced from EVH

I don't understand the desire for sag. I suppose it's a matter of taste.

Intorbdesting. But from what I can tell, there's nothing new in the cab 'cept for aesthetics?

Re: 5150IIIS EL34 announced from EVH

When I had my Egnater Vengeance, I had the opportunity to bias every tube type in it, because it's design allows for it. The Vengeance isn't drastically different from the EVH. One thing that was interesting is that the gain channel improved with EL-34's but the clean channel definitely sounded better with 6L6's. It shouldn't have been a big surprise, because of the two amp Marshall/Fender combination everyone knows, but getting to hear the same circuit with both tube types taught me a bit about the differences.

I know Ed is making a nice living off his product line, but I'd still seek out used Bogners, Friedmans, modded Marshall boutiques, etc. They're made better and use higher quality components.

Yeah, that is one cool and surprising fact. Most artists start slapping their names on any POS thing imaginable to make a buck.. cough cough wylde guitars cough...

But Ed does demand quality stuff.

I LOVE the old brown tone, and want to be able to get it when I want, but Im trying to find my own sound.

I played a LBX the other day and was surprised how good it was..

Re: 5150IIIS EL34 announced from EVH

Im not a VH tone chaser either, I think his tone has gone to **** post 1984, but put me into the "me too".camp about his products. The amps are not my personal thing but from strings to pedals, cabs to amps to guitars, if his name is on it, you can bet it sounds good.
