My son has a Epi Sg copy. A pretty decent player. He is changing all the pots and toggle switch. Putting the Seth Lover 55 at the neck and SH 59 at the bgidge. He plays the basic Stones ,Beatles, Johnny Cash, Dylan, AC DC, Egles, Moody Blues etc. Has a Fender red knob twin "The Twin". This is a done deal. Just hoping to hear some good responces. Did He do The right thing?

Welcome to the forum.

He's probably not in too bad of shape for most of that. He may want an overdrive and/or distortion pedal for some of the dirtier stuff. I know I don't want to be anywhere near that Twin if he's got it cranked enough for AC/DC. I used to have one of those twins and it was a great amp, just more intended for cleans. I think the pickup selection in the guitar is just fine. He should really enjoy it.

Yes, welcome.

I agree that the Seth and the '59 are both great pickups. He should be in great shape with those. They should be able to get him in the zone of all of the types of music you mentioned. What does he think of the pickups? In the end he is the one who will have to live with those choices.

Great ideas
Thos red knob twins are fun
You can actually run effects units straight in thru the FX LOOP (ie a POD XT LIVE, BOSS GT series) and get great sounds

My friend does gigs like this - very fat tone!

I have to say I prefer either using a SETH LOVER SET or a APH1 SET. Either way, 59 bridge works quite well.

Hi. I set-up my Epi SG similarly, although my Seth neck pup is actually a bridge model, so it has to sit pretty low. I found the '59 bridge too trebly, so I put a .047 cap to lessen the treble and bite, and still prefer to keep the tone pot below 5.

As a bonus, I replaced the neck vol. pot with a push-pull pot to try to get that Peter Green style out-of-phase sound, but find that I need to set bass and mids to max on my eq pedal to get a beefier sound while in OOP.

Overall, it is a very punchy sounding guitar and the Seth neck pup sounds particularly great on the lower strings with OD on. The guitar could do with better tuners.

Thanks everybody. My kid is just 18 years old . He and I both appreciate the experienced replies. Perhaps his mis-matched set up isn't the best. But will surely be better than tha stock Epi configuration.
Thanks Again

It's all a matter of taste. Many of the guys around here recommend that very set, including one of our vintage pickup gurus Lewguitars.
