Bought one.

Tried it in V1 in both of my amps. Wow. Me likey much more than the 6 various brand 12ax7s I have messed with in every combo possible in both amps.

Really opened up the Class5 into a more 3dimensional sounding amp, and made the entire gain range usable on the volume control. No more sludge past 2 oclock.

On the Clean channel of my Tubemeister, it softened up the hard bass, and strident highs, smoothed the midrange, and again made the entire gain range more usable. It improved the crunch channel somewhat too, but now the Clean channel has a voicing more to my vintage style taste.

I have a mess of old 5751s (there are some OS Mullard ECC83s in the pic too). It's nice to have them to swap out when needed, but eventually came to realize that I prefer the ECC832 if an '83 in the V1 slot is too gainy.

I have a bunch of NOS 5751's too. Mostly GE and RCA.

But they sound a little bland to me.

I thought I liked them but after a while found that I didn't. :smack:

I kinda dig the mellow tone of GEs and I really like the RCAs (I haven't tried the fancy ones, just the ones with the orange script). With that said, it's been a long time since I've bought regular production preamp tubes, so I'll have to try something besides the JJ and Tung Sols. I will say this though, I think if I found a more balanced modern production tube than the JJ or Tung Sol stuff I probably wouldn't buy any more vintage tubes due to the prices out there (and I don't think GEs are worth the price most places are asking for).

The 5751 is really nice in my g12h30 setup, as that is a really thick/beefy sound. Did not care for it as much with the 12m25 (green beret) which has alot more presence and open tone already...5751 thinned the amps out.12ax7s work better with the12m.

My 5751 is a GT rebrand. I figured its a JJ,but have seen rumblings about it beinga Sovtek. Nothing on the glass to denote either. I just cannot mentally get past the barrier of very expensive NOS tubes in my modest at home amps( c5, TM18). When I get back into something bigger and worthy,I will spend the coin on NOS.

The only GT 5751 I'm aware of is the GT5751M, which is really just the GT Mullard 12AX7 reissue tube that doesn't meet 12AX7 specs (as told to me by Miles Rose, who used to work there). I have one in an amp, and it's an OK tube but I think getting an NOS or ANOS vintage 5751 is a better bet.

I personally liked more the 5751 in PI position than V1.
In V1 is too much hi-fi and takes a life to break it. It can sound a tad harsh, as well.
NOS JAN Philips 5751 can be easily found, still, and not that expensive.

I didn't mean the Russian Mullard-branded reissue tube, I meant the GT12AXM (GT's proprietary Mullard reissue tube). The only other currently manufactured 5751 is the Electro-Harmonix one, which is what it must be if it isn't the GT version. Those are OK IMO, but most NOS 5751's will sound much better (again, IMO). It could be that GT has added the EH version to it's catalog since I've checked, so that would explain it. What is the exact model number of the tube?. The Mullard RI type would be a GT5751M. Does it have an "R" suffix to the model number?.

ST-5751....sovtek? It is the "cull" silver series. I looked at some pics, it may be a second of the GT-M RI. Not really sure.

At any rate, it seems there is some.controvrsey involved with GT branded 5751s, which does not really concern me. Tone does. The ST5751 does a nice job when I am using the H30. Not so much with the M25 (which is where my heart lies). It still makes the entire gain range much more usable on both amps, but there is too much clarity, which thins everything out. With the H30 it just opens up the tone beautifully without losing any beef.
