59/CC Hybrid versus PG

Hello,

I have made two 59/CC hybrids, one with an A5 magnet and one with the A2. I have been using the A5 thinking I liked it until I tried the A2 and I like it even better, it seems smoother with a nicer overall tone, maybe a touch warmer. To those that are up on this Hybrid deal, how far off is the 59/CC hybrid from a PG at this point? Are they basically the same thing or if not, what are the differences?

Thanks!

Not the same. That hybrid is quite a bit hotter and is a lot smoother that the PG

PG (IMO) is harsher, brighter and doesn't have the "hi-fi" sound or harmonic content of the hybrid. I find the hybrid much more complex in character.

Hi Fi is the wrong term to describe the Hybrid in my opinion, but it does have more harmonics...Basically you're looking at the best attributes of the 59 and a CC if you go A2....Chimey on the highs, more mids, more balls, more output, harmonics, and great note articulation...

I prefer the A2 magnet and that's what I use in both of mine...The Jazz/59N Hybrid I use in the neck spot has an A4 magnet...

maybe a bad choice of words...by hi-fi I really meant clarity and character...less sterile. (IMO)

Yes the Hybrid has alot of clarity or "note articulation"..The word HI FI is something most of us relate to with home stereo, camcorders, and VCRs though...

It's hard to use the terminology that players can understand,so words like,fat,ballsy,toppy,clear,articulate,dark,thin,tight,woofy,etc...help explain things in guitar player terms...:laugh2:

The terminology is an aquired thing that you learn how to express in these terms after alot of years....

Hi FI......To me with an amp or pickups, effects etc...does better describing sterile, dry, too clean....

The funny thing about amps, guitars, pickups, and effects,is that we want to purposely color our tone....That's the reason amps have things like master volume controls, effects offer overdrive/distortion,and then we add things like delay,tremolo,etc..to color the tone even further.....Funny isn't it?
