59/jazz hybrid mids vs Pearly gates neck mids?

Hey all. Searched for this but didn't really see a complete answer. I have a 59/customs in the bridge and it has lots o mids, and when I switch to my jazz hb in the neck, it's a good sound but kinda hollow in the mids in comparison.

I keep hearing the 59/jazz hybrid is a great match for the bridge hybrid, but how will it do in the mix for mids? Is the pearly a better idea? Or switch magnets to a4 or a2? Or make a pearly/jazz hybrid? I like the highs in the jazz, I suppose I could live with a little less if I had some more mids...

Not sure what to do... Thoughts?

Because hybrids avae mismatched coils, they lose some of the HB effect, and therefore have more treble and less mids. Sounds like you'd want an A2 or A4 in a '59/Jazz neck hybrid. That way you can have a full sound from the mids, and still maintain a sharp high end.

PGN's have lots of mids, but not much in the way of treble.

I've ran that hybrid set before and they do fit together well. I keep tinkering around with many bridge models, but I've been liking the neck hybrid enough to keep it in play in many guitars, especially with a polished A4 mag.

for what it's worth, if you are into splitting the coils, I've found that putting the 3-way in the middle position so that you get the Custom slug coil from the bridge and the '59 slug coil from the neck (if you make it with the Jazz screws and '59 slugs) will give a really grovvy tone...particularly on a clean amp setting.

Thanks guys. I should clarify that I'm running a stock (a5) jazz in the neck right now... So would I be better off trying a4 in stock jazz rather than 59/jazz with a4? Does a pearly sound ok with a4? Anyone tried that?

I also should clarify I have H/S/H in a Ibanez s470dx. (Thin mahogany)

Bridge sounds so good it's crazy, sounds like I should also consider switching to combine split neck and bridge...

start with the A4 in the Jazz. I've also tried that with results that I like better than the A5 Jazz. when it comes to the A4, there is polished and unpolished. the polished will have a little more brilliance to it... or perhaps clarity or shine. the unpolished will be a little softer and rounded. if the JazzA4 doesn't get you there, then go with the J/59n... I have a spare I'm looking to possibly put on the block soon, so let me know if you're interested.

Ok, I guess I'll be ordering some magnets soon haha! I just started tinkering with pups, never done a mag swap before so thanks for the help.

I can tell now that I'm kinda addicted, (59/custom will do that I guess ) so I imagine I'll eventually try many options just to see... the 59/jazz is still on my radar for sure.

ive been wondering how these compare too. I'm ashamed that i havent ever played a PG... That will change soon. Right now the j/59 A4 is my main neck bucker and it is amazing for cleans. Dirty though its a bit woofy and scooped still. not much. but im running custom 8 bridge and distorted sounds dont play well with each of them. Cleans are a different story. but im wondering if the PGn will play better with the custom8 with gain. Can anybody chime in on that.. Guitar is a LP by the way
