So I've been gigging with 4 guitars and I'm hoping someone can help lighten my load a bit. New band plays "swamp"(ANYTHING southern),so I need a pickup that can do ANYTHING. Country to metal. I play Allman Bros and Crowbar in the same set. Jason Isbell and COC. Anything I can do to get close to everything I need in one set???

Welcome to the forum!

I think the JB/59 set is ultra versatile and the JB actually sounds very country and metal somehow simultaneously.

Need to know what guitars, amps. But since you posted 59, I'm going to assume an HH Gibson type until I hear otherwise. Trying to get everything out of one pickup set is unlikely - you'll have to decide which you need to be more accurate on the sound, country, or metal. But these are a few of my recommendations:

Pearly Gates set
Jazz set
Custom bridge / Jazz neck
500T / 496R

I've used all these combinations in a Gibson Les Paul Studio and played all kinds of music with them.

I think a 59 set can do it, if you have the right pedals and amps. A great boost pedal is needed, as well as an amp capable of high gain.

To answer the question: No, there is not a single humbucker that can do what you want. Especially if you are really tone chasing that stuff (Don't so that). I played Southern Rock (among other things classic rockish) with a Custom Custom (Allmans, Woman Tone Clapton, etc.), a Pearly Gates (ZZ Top, Black Crowes) and a Distortion (Creedance, Skynyrd).

I'm thinking you need a basic, generic PAF-sh style: 59, PG, Whole Lotta, or maybe a Saturday Night Special.
That, along with a bad@$$ programmable EQ and a decent couple of OD/Distortion pedals is what you'll need.

I'd have 2 guitars at least.

If you absolutely MUST do this with 1 guitar, then you're going to need several pedals. I would look at a 59n & 59/Custom hybrid combo, as the hybrid will get you good humbucker tones as well as a reasonably good single coil tone when split.

Anything from the Custom or Custom/Hybird is a good call. The Custom slug coil when split is very Fender / strat like.

i agree with dave, if you have the right amp and pedals, a 59 set will get you there. allmans and isbell are straight paf type tone, isbell even has ed kings 59 lp. for coc and crowbar, a boost, or better yet an eq pedal, will get you what you need. or maybe an invader bridge with a series parallel switch if you really need the heavys

JB you fooz. It's the only pickup in the line that has both a long history of metal plus genuine country tones and good single coiley twang when split. I would use a JB in the bridge with any PAF in the neck (59 is my fav) plus a master spin a split. You'd be able to alternate between gainy series sounds and more acouticy or twangy sounds with the turn of a dial...

WLH or 59/Custom Hybrid for more mids. Custom or 59 for more punch. Depends what you like more and what amp you play. Custom or 59 may sound too scooped on a Fender. And a WLH or 59/C may sound too middy on a Vox.

Metal is more about the distortion provided than the guitar or pickup. So just have a RAT or something similar on your board.

Do you have a recording of a JB playing country music? Please post a link. I want to hear this.

Nothing off the top of my head. I could whip something up if you're serious. Full series is passable, but (partial) split is actually super authentic ime. The only other pickup in the line that sounds as southern would be the WLH. Good luck splitting that tho lol.
