'59s in a Epi LP or SG

I'm looking at getting at possibly picking up an Epiphone LP or SG style and putting in some decent pickups. I've got a chrome covered '59 for the neck and will pickup another 59 or similar vintage sytle for the bridge. I already know its not really worth it...so if I sell it later I'll put the stock stuff back in.
Has anyone had good results upgrading an epi LP with new buckers and some better pots?

Or perhaps a faded series SG with some '59s dropped in????
thanks,
matt

Not a LP, but I had great results from upgrading my Epi Sheraton. It now has CTS pots (hard to stuff in the F-holes) Orange Drop caps, and a pair of Phat Cats (previously a set of Seth's ). While it might not sound like a Gibson, it'll still sound pretty good.

'59s can do wonders in Epi guitars, which usually are thinner sounding. The '59s compensate with great bass and bite.

I've tried '59s in a Gibson SG and there were too much bass. I went for Seths and Ants later.

"59's" or Seth's work really well in the Epi's and make sure you do the pot and cap upgrade at the same time, it's well worth it ...

I've put new humbuckers in two Epi Les Pauls and they made both guitars into totally professional sounding guitars. In one I used a Jazz neck and JB bridge and in the other I used a '59 neck and JB bridge. The JB really sounds great in those guitars. In both guitars I used 4 conductor cable pickups and replaced the stock tone controls with tone controls with push/pull switching so I could split the humbuckers into single coils. Highly recommeneded. Lew

Lew,

Just curious... Which combo did you like better the Jazz/JB or 59/JB? I'm looking at doing the same thing in an Epi LP that I have.

i put a set of 59's in an epi lp and the bridge pup was great. the neck pup is good but the overdriven tone on the low notes doesnt have enough clarity during single note runs. i think a jazz neck, 59 bridge would be a killer combo.
