I'm looking for an amp that can give me searing metal tones and nice 80's styles hard rock tones. I chose the 6505. Is it worth it to shell out $100 more for the +? Thanks

If you can live with a shared EQ, go with the standard 6505. If you need cleans/separate EQs, get the plus.

On a side note; Looks like PV went to V30s for the 6505 cabs, and greenbacks with the 430 cabs. (at least they are direct from PV)
(you'd think 430 cab would be 4 v30s,,,,,,but no they have to make it all complicated lol)
And who is really going to go $1200 on a 6505 cab anyways?

The plus has EQ and presence / resonance (depth/damping) for each channel. Whether or not you can call the rhythm channel "clean" is up for debate.

IF the cabinet sounded incredible, I would pay the extra money. Look at the prices of these heads , very affordable and very good at what they do. You get a solid Metal rig for a great price here even at full retail price IMO

You'd pay $1200 for a peavey cab when you could easily find a used minty mesa for $500-$600?
I've opened up a couple peavey 6505/xxx cabs and was faaaaaaar from impressed at their build quality and sealing job.
I'd go about $400 NEW for one if I was in the market, and that's with v30s or greenbacks. lol
Avatars are even much better quality.
Kudos to peavey amps though, great for the money.
You'd pay $1200 for a peavey cab when you could easily find a used minty mesa for $500-$600?

Ive always loved the big thick gooey tone of these amps, but figure its not something I would use all the time as Im still trying to find "my tone", so Ive not sprung for one. Hopefully, when my home sitch improves, I can pick one up on the cheap to have the tone when I want it..

I've played quite a few of the 6505/6505+'s, personally I need the clean channel as I don't just play pure heavy with distortion all the time. The distortion channel DOES suffer a bit from my experience though so what is being said is correct, if you can get away with the 6505 and it works for you have at it. I currently play through an early model rectoverb but man peaveys are sick amps, hope to be able to run the two in stereo when i get some extra cash.
If you have the 6505 already and she does what you need I wouldn't change it. I figure you'd be thinking like I would that maybe in a couple years you'll need the separate EQ for a cleanISH channel. Have you A/B'd them? Thats always the best way to figure it out.
