6534+ or jcm900 dual reverb?

I am growing so tired of my 6534+ so I put it up for sale. Someone offered me 900$ which is pretty decent and was thinking of buying a jcm900 dual reverb (4100). I am just worried the jcm wont have enough gain for death metal? or be able to handle semi low tunings. I will be playing D standard most of the time but sometimes will whip out my 7 string. I have a couple boost pedals to tighten things up but is that enough?

When I saw Morbid Angel opening for Pantera in 2000 Trey Azagthoth was playing through JCM900 Dual Reverbs. I don't know if he was using a boost, but I'm pretty sure MA counts as death metal. Can't say I'm sure what tuning they were in either.

900 duallys are not exactly huge on the low end. They are more of a hair metal eq kinda rig. Plenty of gain, but not the big scoopy modern sound. I don't know if you'll dig it for your low tuned stuff.

I heard it sounds alot like a jcm800 though? And I only plan on playing in D standard.

I should specify the tone im interested in is that of sylosis, Ik they use modded jcm800s

A lot of people hate on the 900s and the Dual Reverb in particular, but they're one of my favorite amps. I don't know if it will be enough gain for what you want, but it might, I don't play death metal, more punk and hardcore and it does fine with the gain halfway up and a boost. It is known for being bright and mid scooped, so I max the mids and run the bass around 8 with no treble and the presence around half and it gets pretty heavy. They can be kind of buzzy at high gain levels with too much treble dialed in. It will handle D standard/drop C fine, but I can't make any promises with a 7 string.

Keep your peavey. JCM900 is more rock amp IMO. It has quite some gain, but doesn't sound really metal to me.

no the dual reverb doesn't.
However if you can find a MKIII DUAL MASTER....then you can have 800 tones with extra gain. Excellent amp.
Ive owned and gigged both types of 900.
USe a set of g12H100s or the current replacement for them, the g12K100 and you will have crushing tones.

Re: 6534+ or jcm900 dual reverb?

Alot of so called "metal" type bands are switching back to Marshall JCM type amps after stints with Orange's and Peaveys, etc. They are more mid-rangey if you like that type of sound and can get a bit fizzy. I switched from a JCM2000 to a 6505+ and it suits what I play in the band our style. We play in drop c.
Sometimes its not all about high gain though cos your sound will turn into mush. My pre-amp gain is never above 4 and it still sounds quite chunky.

Personally I'd keep the Peavey cos it has a resonance control which you can adjust to fatten up the low end. Use with caution though cos over 7 will start pissing the bass player off as you're covering his frequencies!

Haven't played well before so I can't comment on that, Mesa's tend to be a bit tighter though, Marshall's more "grainy" and more middy.

Re: 6534+ or jcm900 dual reverb?

What didn't you like about the 6534? I personally think the Marshall can pull off the Sylosis style tones with an overdrive to give it a little more.

I don't think it will pull off the crazy low end, scooped death metal tones, but can pull off the tighter, low gain tones like Necrophagist, Spawn of Possession, Psycroptic etc...
