6l6's vs. EL34's in JSX

I've never liked the sound from my JSX head.....I use jackson soloist guitars and they sound really thin or really compressed. I thought that the JSX came with 6l6's in it, but mine has JJ tesla EL34's. This is the first tube amp I've owned, and I've never changed the tubes to know what differance the power amp tubes make, but I have heard that 6l6's are fatter. I bought a 6505 and love it, it DOES have 6l6's in it! Do you think if I change the tubes it will help make it more full? if not, I'm gonna trade it for a valve king, I love that little head!

by the way, the specs of the amp say it will accept 6L6GS tubes, I can't find them anywhere, what other types of 6L6's will work?

I always just ignored that stupid 2 letter ending on 6L6's - any will work in your amp.

And yes, I think they would definitely improve the tone. It'll make it fuller, warmer, more bodied, and less abrasive on the high end.

That said, with a 6505, sell the JSX and use it for a new axe!!

talk to Doug @ www.dougstubes.com. When I had a 6L6s amp, I used the JJ 6L6s. Thick, meaty tone, aggressive and clear. they may rolls off a bit of the harsh highend off your tone.

Cheers
