Re: 6V6 tubes

I have only used the JJ in a decent amp, so I cannot comment, but am looking forward to what others have to say.

Re: 6V6 tubes

i like the tungs cos they get all smooshy and groovy when pushed, but cos i generally go for headroom and low end i use jj's the most.

Re: 6V6 tubes

took me a minute to get past the boobs

Genalex Gold Lion CV511 (6V6G)- never tried em
GE 6V6 GT - like them very much. had two sets and they were almost like heaven. creamy warm and clear
JAN Sylvania 6V6GTY - never tried em
Tungsol 6V6 (Reissues) - these are good and sound like a decent 6v6gt
TAD 6V6GT-STR - never tried em
Jan-Philips 6V6GT - good strong tubes. used a set for 10 years in a little 12w cathode biased 1x12 combo. didnt sound as big as the ge but was just as good in almost every other way
Electro Harmonix 6V6GT - meh. they work
JJ 6V6-S6GY - is this the normal jj 6v6gt? good tube that doesnt sound all that 6v6 like. i use them in my deluxe reverb and they sound good just has more 6l6 qualities
Marconi 6V6GT - never tried
Marconi 6V6G - never tried

Re: 6V6 tubes

Any list that doesn't include RCAs is complete and utter fail, IMO.

RCA does not make tubes anymore (Actually, GE made the tubes after 1947) and RCA under that agreement has not made any tubes since 1975.

Another interesting point is that RCA started as GE, then was split apart by US government and ceased to to business after being purchased by GE in 1976.

Re: 6V6 tubes

Dude, I love that gif; its like boob magic!!! What is it from?

Using my Tweaker 15, with '57 Mullard in V1, Current EH in effects loop, and a Mullard CV4024 in the PI, and a PowerPlug attenuator with -12dB, I've used these 6V6's:

-Stock Ruby's - some people hate em, but I actually like mine, nice grit, gives me a good time. It's the junk Sovtek preamp tubes that really hurt the Tweaker
-Russian Tung Sols - crisp n clear, but the distortion fatigues my ears after a while - more fizz
-Used GE's - really nice, nothing offensive about the tone
-Used RCA's - these are the winners, made the amp sound 3D. Probably illogical, but I took them out to save them for special occasions.

So GE made RCA 6V6's? Didn't know that. Here they are:
