Hi, I have a Washburn WG587 7 string guitar, although it sounds good, i am sure changing the pick-ups would make it sound a lot better. What is a good pick-up to buy for this 7 string, neck and bridge, and is there much to choose from!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look forward to hearing your opinions advice etc
Cheers

Re: 7 Sting pick-up needed

I'd go with a 59 seven string version at the neck, and either a Custom for 7 or JB for 7. This should give you a good combo for most styles of music and it would also give you good lowend without getting muddy.

Re: 7 Sting pick-up needed

I have two dimarzio PAF7s in mine. The neck is very good, a bit modern, but very clear and articulate. The bridge I don't like. I can get a good sound out of it, but I'm sure I could do better.

Re: 7 Sting pick-up needed

the dimarzio blaze is excellent, steve vai uses that in his universe.. but then again dimarzio have a lot of excellent 7 string pickups. but if its good enough for vai then its good enough for me :fing2:

Re: 7 Sting pick-up needed

I have a Custom/59' in my Schecter Omen 7- I'm very happy with the combination. Tons of harmonics and a aggressive chunky sound from the Custom. The 59' is great for blues/jazz stuff if you roll down the vol knob a hair.

What kind of music do you play? If you focus on rythem playing, go Custom. For soloing, go with the JB. For extreme metal, go with the Distortion. Good luck! BTW- welcome to the Forum!

Re: 7 Sting pick-up needed

Being on the tone wizzard for about half an hour, switching between the Custom, Distortion, 59 and JB, i have decided to go for a 59 for the neck, and custom for the bridge. Anymore thoughts before i nip onto Music 123.com and order them???
Thanx for your help everyone

Good thing you didn't go with the Blaze pickups. I have an Ibanez Universe that I'm contemplating on selling with the Blaze pickups in it. These are the worst pickups I have ever heard in my life. I've heard Silvertones with better pickups than these. But that's just my bitter opinion. :p

Would the prior recommendations in this thread work for a guitar made of basswood? I might play around with some more Duncans in my ESP before I cut it up to fit the EMG's. :D

Didn't korn use Blaze pickups for their first two albums?

Re: 7 Sting pick-up needed

I *THINK* they used Blaze pickups on their first two albums. Don't quote me just yet. If this really is true, then it's no wonder they sound like crap on those two albums. :p

ehhh. the guitars were a bit bassy, but s/t and life is peachy are my two favorite by them. They had their own sound and I think it worked with the material.

Re: 7 Sting pick-up needed

Korn always used Ibanez Universe 7 String Guitars until Ibanez created their own signature guitars. I used to be a huge fan, and they were one of the reasons I picked up a guitar. Now they just don't have it anymore.

No...they actually used Telecasters and Les Pauls according to interviews.

I've gone through most of the 7 string realm and the Dimarzios are superior to anything else I've been able to get ahold of. The Tone Zone 7 in the bridge and a PAF Pro 7 in the neck are just stunning together.

The Blazes are the stock pickups; not terribly good and in no way indicative of how great the Tone Zone, PAF or Air Nortons are.

If you haven't ordered your pickups yet it would behoove you to check them out.

Duncan makes some fine pickups with fantastic tone, amazing consistency and incredible quality. But for the 7's it's Dimarzios ball game all the way.

Re: 7 Sting pick-up needed

but then decided on the Custom and 59, should be here Thurs,
can't wait to come home from work and pop em in!!
