7 string pickups?

sooooo, today i picked up a 7 string Ibanez AZ...which is a DREAM guitar, to me. it is a magnificent guitar...plays like butter and is second to none in craftsmanship and quality. that said, i am not super excited about the pickups...the sound is not bad, in fact, the clean tones are exceptional; but the overdrive tones don't have quite enough 'bite' for me, they are just kind of meh. the guitar is an HH, and i am looking to replace the SD hyperion pickups with something with a little more edge that i can still get a multitude of great clean tones with also. any of y'all have much experience in the realm of 7 string guitars? if so, any recommendations?

I really like the Dimarzio Ionizer 7-string set. It stays tight, keeps the B string from getting flubby, and has good clean tones on the neck. I also like the Dimarzio Crunch Lab and Liquifire set, but they are better for higher gain tones.

Only experience I had with a 7 string had a Nazgul/Sentient set in it. Really liked the Sentient, good cleans, good for soloing.

Now the Nazgul, in that guutar thru my amp, it was very nasally. I aboslutely hated it. No matter what I did, I couldnt dial it out.

Ended up trading the guitar in on something else with a JB and 59 in it.

If you want more edge, look at either the Pegasus/Sentient set, or if you play exclusively with a ton of gain all the time, the Sentient/Nazgul set.

FINALLY got in my pickups...the low end sound for the bridge is MUCH improved for OD tones...and the neck clarity is exceptional. really like this set of pickups; thanks for the suggestion!

Sounds like you’re set, but for others, consider the Jupiter Rails 7 available through the Custom Shop. Sounds sick!
