7 string stuff

Re: 7 string stuff

Cool track, but I think the rhythm guitar sounds a little muddy. If DSS chimes in he will probably give you plenty of tips for recording 7 strings.

Re: 7 string stuff

Hehe that I will... downloading now.

Without hearing it, there are a couple tips I can give. Use an OD pedal infront of the amp; it'll tighten things up immensely. I've never heard an amp NOT sound better with one. Also, be carfeful with the lows... don't use too much. Same with the highs! The guitar is a MID instrument, and you NEED to leave room for the cymbals and bassist. Also, I use Waves C4 with a setting to tighten up the low mids, gets rid of mud and rumble down there. If you need the preset, lemme know.

Your tone sounds really thin and harsh to me... what did you use to record it? Did you quadtrack the rhythm parts? How were the guitars panned?

Re: 7 string stuff

What is waves c4?

It was recorded with a podxt using garageband. two rhythm tracks panned full left and full right with lead track in center.

Re: 7 string stuff

Waves C4 is a Waves plugin - a multi-band compressor. You won't be able to use that with Garageband.

Do you have the metalpack for the PODxt? If so, I can send you some kill patches. I think I even have one Andy Sneap made for a standard PODxt without the metalpack.

Re: 7 string stuff

Multi-band compressor....ok garageband has one built in, with assignable frequency ranges and headroom, Q factor, and gain. I used it alot to get that drum sound (drums are limited in garageband). I will try it on the guitar tracks.

I have the metal pack and the effects junkie pack on the podxt. I would appreciate some patches for it.

Please explain quad tracking.
thanks,
Nick

By panning full left and right you gain space but also lose some punch and warmth. If you feel your sound is thin, you could try panning the two tracks only a little bit left and right.

BTW, I like the clip very much, although the wide, scooped rythm sound makes it rather exhausting to listen to it IMO.

Re: 7 string stuff

I like the sound and don't find it neither very thin nor harsh ... drums are a bit boring ...
btw
DSS: I'm waitng for your recto clips... I often don't like the mids on recto clips but I think you gonna suprise me!

I A/Bed the clip with one of zorran and now I know what DSS means with harsh and thin ;) but your clip is still good!
