$700.00 Gibson Les Paul CM . . . your opinion ?

Re: $700.00 Gibson Les Paul CM . . . your opinion ?

The idea's cool and dig the no weight relief. But... much prefer to see it with a neck humbucker and binding. Not too crazy about satin finishes on bodies.
If I had limited budget though and was dead set on a new Gibson, this would definitely catch my eye. Routing a 2nd pickup cavity isn't that much work.

Interesting they stuck a maple neck on there. As improved durability or as a cheaper and more sustainable alternative to mahogany?

And if we jump up a couple of hundred dollars, we find this magnificent guitar with good necks and simple finishes besides flat black.

Do you want your LP with P90's -

or Humbuckers -

I really like the Humbuker Satin Honeyburst model, and the Satin Ebony P90 model.

Was just perusing GC's September ad and saw this... if you want a lower priced Gibby, this is more what I'd consider:

Even has Burstbuckers!

Oh come on you guys! Whatever a man wants to do with $700 is his problem!

He was asking for opinions but you guys all rained down on him like he said he was for killing babies or something.

I'm going to pick up a Les Paul CM and turn it into an axe y'all would be proud of.

Would I play it as is? I don't think so.

But after several upgrades, yes!

Thanks man . . . but i did ask the forum, also to see if there is something ''better'' for my 7-8 Bills out there.

Well, according to Gibson ads and pricing, there is NOTHING better than a Gibson.. haha Not to get off topic, but it cracks me up reading most of their ads anymore. They rarely mention playability anymore, but always mention collectability...

Got mine. Pretty much OK with it, considering that I'm not after a traditional LP tone. Anyway, have Bare Knuckle in there.

Have to be honest, for 700 USD I could see myself going after a bunch of other offerings from other OEMs, both Asian AND US-based first, however if you HAVE to have that logo on the headstock then be prepared to spend an additional 150-250 USD in luthier work and less-than-optional hardware upgrades. If you're still down with that then enjoy your new Gibson I guess.

Re: $700.00 Gibson Les Paul CM . . . your opinion ?

I really like the Humbuker Satin Honeyburst model, and the Satin Ebony P90 model.

I have the goldtop 50s Tribute, love it, pups are decent, love the fat neck, feels great!

I bought from Sweetwater, who like to promote their pickiness regarding what they accept from Gibson. Judging by mine, I have no reason not to believe them. They also have a Plek machine, and had an offer of a free Plek job on a couple of the lower end Gibson's that apparently don't get that treatment at the Gibson factory. So, to me, spending another $200 is a no brainer, but the seller certainly played a positive role in the happy outcome.

I would go for one of the Tributes, or the faded Studios mentioned earlier, rather than the CM.

Re: $700.00 Gibson Les Paul CM . . . your opinion ?

Seems to me you can take the $700 and get a lot more guitar for your money elsewhere. And something about a LP with dot inlays just looks wrong to me.

Re: $700.00 Gibson Les Paul CM . . . your opinion ?

I kinda like them...

I got to play one at my local music store. (it's probably worth mentioning that this music store is amazing about setting up every guitar that comes in perfectly) I played through a little locally made point to point Class A 5W head & 1X12 cabinet. I'm sure the amp was a lot of the tone but the guitar was certainly a lot of fun!!! It screamed when I wanted it to, cleaned up well with the volume knob, & the tone knob was quite responsive...

I still don't think I'd buy one new, or at least not for $700??? There's a lot of better options for less money out there, even ones that have Gibson logos on em!!!

I bought this off a friend so I only paid $450 for it but I've seen them selling for around $550 pretty frequently. I absolutely love the thing! It's got it's own character for sure & it's easily 10X the guitar that the CM I played was....

I didn't read the entire thread but, better for you money depends on what you want. Do you really want that CM or do you "just" want a cheap Les Paul? MF will blow out the Tributes and/or the Studio Faded T's, probably at $600 with one of their Stupid deals of the day. It's just a matter of time. But you have to see it when they list it. So yeah, you can definitely do better for the money if you are patient and/or shop around. I picked up a NOS 2013 LP 70's Tribute for under $600, local, about this time last year. That "cheap" LP may have my all time favorite neck. As it is, a Tribute or Studio Faded has a carved top, dual buckers, 4 controls and a bridge and tailpiece, all of which adds to the build cost compared to the CM. If those features are worth the extra $150 or $200 bucks I guess depends on the buyer. I don't mind flat tops, but not big on single bucker guitars and would prefer a bridge and tail piece, or a nice, intonatable wraparound. So personally, for me it would probably be worth the extra.

I just took a quick look at Amazon and see a CM for $650, Studio Faded's for $800 and Tributes for $900. Not endorsing Amazon. It was just a quick place to look. Appears the Faded's are in your price range so maybe they are an option to also check out.

How was the nut straight out of the box? I could tell they had done some work to the one that I played the other day....
