Out of curiosity, is anyone able to identify all the effects on the guitar on that soundtrack?

I have really great memories of watching Magnum and The Rockford Files, and for an Irish kid the sunny weather was almost unbelievable.

More than likely, that's Abraham Laboriel, an L.A. sessionista from way back in the 1970's. He toured with Al Jarreau for quite a while.
He was throwing down with Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour and guys like that.
His son, Abe Jr., is holding down the fort now.

As for the horns (soprano and tenor sax), that's the unmistakable sound of Ernie Watts, one of Quincy Jones' favorite horn guys.

Speaking of Quincy, the Sanford & Son theme is played by one of my bass heroes, Chuck Rainey.
He hung out with everyone from the (Young) Rascals ("Groovin'" was one of his early hits), to Aretha ("Rock Steady") to Steely Dan ("Peg").

Quincy was on fire with movie and TV themes BITD.

Say what you must about this guy (but not on the page, OK?), but his first solo TV show had a funky theme song.
Ms Carol Kaye got a chance to stretch out.
