8 string pickup that does it all

So, I just bought an agile intrepid 828 with a single emg 808 pickup. Iam not a fan of active pickup (even if that pickuo is not that bad) but I'm looking foward to replace it. I need a very versatile pickup and that is suitable to split coil. I was really leaning toward the pegasus ('cause it comes in a soapbar version and is a bit lower output). I want something that has good note definition and great cleans but that can still rip your face off (ya know what I mean). The only thing that bother me with that pickup is that I saw a comment that said that it would sound muddy in a mahogany body... So what are your thoughs on it ? Thanks

Welcome to the Forum!

My guess is the Pegasus is exactly what you want. It does a lot of things well, from clean to super-tight distorted chunk, and is powerful enough to dislocate your face. I think it would be fine in a mahogany body- I have used it in LPs and SGs before and it sounded great.

I have an RGA8 with Dimarzio D'Activators and it sounds awesome! It doesn't look bad with them mounted in the soap bar holes.

Thanks, I think I'll go whit the pegasus but do you have split coil and if you do what do you think of it. Also, I'm new to the 8 string so what string gauge do you use?

The Pegasus is 4 conductor, so, yes, it can be split. I have tried the 6 string Pegasus split, and it sounds pretty good- it is always a compromise, but it sounds a lot better than a lower output pickup split.
