Tell me what is the real big difference as it isI don't think modern society will tolerate the 80s again.....

MikeS said:I'm obviously missing something... outside of the "older" bands who have been weilding solos for years and years, who are the newer bands who are doing more than simple power chords? Are you telling me I have to start listening to the radio again? Or, God forbid, watch MTV!?!?!
Guitar Toad said:The 80's had just great guitar based music. And as many inserted riffs and solos as pleased them.
Well Rush is not exactly typical 80's, but one night I was driving home late from KC with some young guys. And non-guitar players. Working Man (from the 70's) was on the radio and the great guitar stuff about to start. Well, my friend the driver changed the station. He said he didn't understand "the need for all those superfluous guitar notes". It was all I could do to simply bite my tongue and let it go. He wanted to hear Weezer.
Nathan said:i notice a lot of guys bashing on simple power chord stuff. don't get me wrong, i'm sick of hearing the same pop-punk emo on the radio, but don't you think there are also masters of simplicity like weezer, queens of the stone age, sam roberts, etc... guys who can take a few chords and write an amazing song with an amazing arrangement. i think there's just as much impressive about being able to write and arrange an amazing simple song as there is to shredding a cheesy guitar solo.

I see a lot more people just staying out of clubs and getting their music through the computer/IPODS etc. The world really needs a new good scene that rivals the 80's.
