80s are coming the 80s are coming

Re: 80s are coming the 80s are coming

Gave silvertide a listen to....not bad at all...a bit acdc blackcrowish (and very buckcherryish) but good musicians and pretty catchy. "calofrnia rain" should be a hit.

Yeah, the greed factor just killed a lot of the spirit of live music. Promoters line their pockets with both money from the audience AND the pay to play from the bands.
Club owners subcontract their parking lots to parking companies, so again, the audience AND the bands get screwed out of $5-$9!!!! Then, the parking enforcement signs in neighborhoods surrounding the clubs, makes it impossible to get free parking.

Add to that the $6 plus tip for a Miller Gen Draft!!!!! When did ONE beer become the price of a 6 pack!!!???

This new XY Generation is becoming the 'you can't market to me' generation.
I think this is out of necessity. The baby boomers get ripped off.....generation X gets ripped off. Now, generation XY has had it!!!! I really think the next big scene in the late 2000's will reflect that. I'd like to say it should be fun and jovial, but I think it's going to lean more anti-corporate.

Sweet.

It's about f*cking time. :headbang:

GenX couldn't effectively be anti-corporate simply because corporations ignored them.....hopefully the EchoBoomers will kick ass and sort sh*t out.

Dude- you need to be writing for Rolling Stone or something. You have a great way of articulating stuff. Thanks for a couple more GJ gems. Have you ever considered pursuing writing, magazine stuff? What do you think?

The 80s guitar thing is already sweeping metal again, with lots of bands bringing their Priest and Maiden influences back out again. Bands like Atreyu, Unearth and 3 Inches Of BLood are totally representing those influences. Also, the 80's new wave sound is coming back in a really trendy way, with bands like Bloc Party recieving tons of attention.

Personally, I'd rather see more bands with a 70s rock influence receiving a bit more attention. The Darkness put out an amazing record, and I'd love to hear more music in Thin Lizzy/Zeppelin/ZZ Top fun rock territory. I can't help but feel happy to be alive when I hear that kind of stuff.

Re: 80s are coming the 80s are coming

im not a real big fan of the regular 80's stuff, but when did the 60's repetition happen?

Bring back the '80's!
Heaps of fun times, I'm listening to George Thorogood at the moment and if you can't smile along with George then YOU ARE DEAD!
Next Thursday I will see the "Hard On's" at one of the last real Pub venues in my home town, it's either the Espy or the Prince of Wales. Sweaty beer fueled and turn up to work with no sleep! Not a good example to the young folk but what the hey!
The "Hard On's" have an absolute classic song "Can't play smoke on the water", laugh till you cry p*** take.
theodie if I'm ever in your neck of the woods I'll buy the drinks!

I'm banking on it. The next act I'm co-producing is an LA strip band of sorts. We start next week. They are all 17/18 y/o pretty boys who rock it with catchy tunes ala GnR, Crue, Poison, but with an updated tone. Plus the fact, that all the girls are going stupid for them already.

I've been saying it for about a year now that it would be coming back. I have friends over in the UK saying that it's been looking like the Sunset Strip from 15-20 years ago over there lately.

Guitar solos are coming back, and now Dean has neon colored guitars for sale..

It always kills my Country friends (and wife for that matter) when I point out the distorted guitars, bombastic drums, and dive-bombing/HO-PO/two-handed guitar solos in their "modern country" - not to mention that the king rock producer of all time, Mr. Twain, is churning out country.

I guess the 80's just went into hiding in Nashville. When I hear the young guys on this board (under 25) give love for the Priest or Maiden, it makes me want to shed a tear. I'm so proud of you kids!! My circle of friends around here lost the faith decades ago!

Yeah, but this is North America. Pretty boy bands have a habit of being deemed gay and ignored by most males....

New Kids on the Block anyone?

Re: 80s are coming the 80s are coming

Screamingdaisy, they are not boy band pretty, but the stuff rock chicks dig, like the way they seem to have a love for Motley Crue. Their image is solid and they fit the bill without seeming like they are trying. Beside if they draw a big chick crowd, then the boys will surely follow. Besides they actually do rock prettyy well for their age! They were already asked to open for Velvet Revolver on some California dates back about 2-3 months ago. Their sound is much more in that type fo current vein. I hope I cry all the way to the bank!

I think this forum made me a better writer/typist. I probably tend to over punctuate when I'm trying to make a point, but I did get straight A's in English!
I suppose my ideal writing job would be as a gear critic for Guitar Player or Guitar World. Maybe I should apply! :)
