80's JB User List

Re: 80's JB User List

Dave Meniketti? At least he used a Kramer Baretta where it would have been stock in the latter half of the eighties.

Re: 80's JB User List

I would take a wild guess that Mike Slamer from City Boy/Streets also used a JB. If not, it was a 59.

Wonder if Tipton and Downing were using JB's in their Hamers before they switched to EMG.

Re: 80's JB User List

How about Eddie Van Halen? Also Joe Satriani (Surfing With Thw Alien).

There was rumor that EVH had a pickup die in one of his Kramers/franky's and it was replaced with a JB, which was found out years later. I have no idea what exact guitar of his it was in. IIRC, it was around the time of OU812, so late 80s.

Re: 80's JB User List

Didn't he use a concept JB?

Anyhoo, I gotta try some Badlands tone...

No, he was a JB user, but his red Charvel Holdsworth had a Holdsworth prototype pickup, which was basically a double screw JB with 2 rows of screws and an A2 mag

I could have asked him last night but got stuck at work until after 10 and couldn't make the show, @#*$@.

Yea i didnt go either. I planned on it but just didnt feel like leaving the house last night. From what i gather, he is playing "Spiders" on this tour-very cool!

Re: 80's JB User List

He used the Holdsworth model in the old White Fender turned Charvel. It's basically a JB with 12 allen poles. The purple and blue Charvels had JB's and he uses the JB now.

And if Allan used a JB wind, it wasn't for long. For the past 30 years, he was using much lower output, much more dynamic pickups, like a neck 59 in the bridge.

Didn't know you were in Denver!

Anthony said it was a fun show, yeah, I'm getting old for school night shows, and I ended up working until 10:15 last night and they went on at 10:30 so I would have barely made the end of the set driving down from Longmont. I was bummed about missing it though, Phil is one of my favorite drummers, loved his stuff with Saigon Kick, and Jake, well it's Jake, still listen to his Ozzy and Badlands stuff, and Ant is just too freakin' cool, and played on one of my top 10 albums of all time, so, that would be a personally picked super group for me (at least if anybody asked my opinion). Don't know much about the singer Darren, can't say he would be my first pick (still talking about a personal super group) but, I really don't know much about him except for the 2 RDC discs, and the 2nd one is definitely better.

Yes he is, and to bring this back on topic, his signature Charvels have a JB in the bridge:

Yup. The only Ozzy tune on the set list.

His current sigs (and the original purple and blue Charvels from the 80's) have the JB but his old white Fender-turned-Charvel had the Holdsworth model in it. It may have been swapped out for a JB at some point, IDK for sure.

Brad Gillis. Both with Night Ranger and when he filled in for Ozzy after Randy Rhoads passed.
