A tweed deluxe is an interesting beast. It's got gobs of tone, but lacks clean headroom and the overall volume is decent but not bassman in scope. An amp that will get you there is a Matchless Lightning. As LesStrat what he thinks of his. I find that amp to be a mix of Fender cleans and Vox AC15 grind. But better than a Vox AC15. I build a version called a Franklin. I'm probably the wrong guy to ask as I"m quite biased about my own stuff.
I've had to recently suspend my wait list again and do not anticipate it opening up again until after Christmas! So, I guess I"m doing something correct. Or I'm just painfully slow.
Let others be the judge of that, but remember they'll be GAS-heads so take it with a grain of salt.

If you are looking for that raw, harry cleans and full on grind crunch late 50's style tweeds are the way to go...or early Marshalls but the tweed Fenders are a hair better for what you want I think.
The Bassman is more than likely what you want for gigging volume and projection, a Super, Bandmaster or Pro might do the trick but if you're really hung up on the Bassman just grab one and decide for yourself if it will work.
The early 90's reissues are ok amps but the LTD's are much nicer IMO...better cabs and speakers which save a lot of money on upgrades.

. . . Pro, that is Pro-what ? Also the Super ? Is that Super Reverb ?

There are no stupid questions...
In the late 50's there was the Bassman, Super, Twin, Pro, Champ, Princeton, Deluxe, Bandmaster, Vibrolux, Tremolux, etc...all were from the Tweed era.
The Super, Pro and bandmaster are all pretty much the same chassis but with different speaker set ups...the Super was a 2x10 the Bandmaster was a 3x10 and the Pro was a 1x15.

Ya know.....if you can find one, Mesa Boogie made a Blue Angel 4x10 that was a FANATASTIC amp.
Heavy, but the tone was beautiful !!!
2 6V6s for 15watts
4 EL84s for 33watts
A switch to combine the tube types for 38watts.
Pure Class A goodness :32:
They came as a head, 4x10, or a 1x12. The head & 4x10 were great...I've heard mixed reviews on the 1x12.
Totally confused now??????

Oh, and the funny thing about the Psychobilly thing is, I LOVE THE GENRE, but being stuck (for now) in SA, i know almost nothing about the gear that my fav. Psycho bands use, as it is not on their sites !!!
So i keep on trying to locate the odd live satge pic on various other sites !
Believe it or not, but flikr.com is very usefull !

They are out of production now, but you see one pop up every now & then.
Curly has a 1x12...maybe check with him to see what he thinks of it now that he's had it a while.

Like I have said and others have also said...for a crunchy tone Tweed is the key!
Depending on what your budget is there are many, many options for great tweed clones these days, so make a decision or 2, keep asking questions and start looking for builders...

IT FORCES THE AMP TO RUN SINGLE ENDED AND THEREFORE CLASS A. IT CAN SOUND VERY COOL BUT ISNT GOOD FOR THE AMP OR PROBABLY THE TUBE
