A Birthday Suprise!

So my 83y/o mom went and did the sweetest thing for my birthday. She completely caught me off guard and sent me a new guitar. Needless to say I was VERY surprised when I got up and saw a large box on the porch with the Fender logo on it. I have mostly always kept too electric, but recently had been thinking an acoustic would make a nice addition as well as help me learn different styles. Well I am now the proud owner of a new Fender CD-60 All Mahagony. Considering she knows absolutely nothing about guitars I think she did pretty well. It is exactly what I wanted, a nice straight up acoustic that didn't break the bank.

I spent this morning dismantling the bridge and removing the spacers, restringing it and I have too say for the price it really is a nice guitar. Very lightweight, beautiful grain, neck straight as an arrow and with the bridge spacers removed very playable. It has a nice mellow tone and came with a great HSC. So all in all was a great start to year 42 lol!

Just thought I would share, I will try to post a few pics later tonight with my wife's IPhone. Since my desktop kicked the bucket and the SD card from my Nikon isn't compatible with my laptop.

Anyhow, mom really hit a home run on this one and showed she still is a sly one even in her later years...... Mom :yourock:

A big congratulations!!

What a great, in-tune mom. She certainly hasn't lost her marbles yet (at least not the ones that count).

Re: A Birthday Suprise!

Not just pics, soundclips please. You have a Mom on par with my own.

Re: A Birthday Suprise!

SO sorry for the delayed reply, been really sick.

Thanks a lot for nice comments!

I promise to have pics of it within the next day. Still need to make a minor bridge adjustment on the next string change, but all in all a really nice and simple instrument. Really impressed by it in all aspects.

TY all once again, pics by tonight ( I hope! ):fingersx:

Re: A Birthday Suprise!

Can your wife's tablet record video with halfway decent sound? I'm dying to hear what it sounds like, even if you just strum E-A-D!

I would think it does, but it is kinda old so not 100% sure. I will ask her when she gets back from her parents, if it does and the sound isn't flat out horrific I will see what I can do.

Re: A Birthday Suprise!

Looks really sweet!!!
Congrats!

Thanks!
I just put the bridge back together, needed to take just a tiny bit more off the saddle after removing the spacers. Now the action is exactly where I like it to be for my playing style.

Have to be honest, I am very pleased with this guitar. It's simple, has a beautiful grain ( which is really hard to see in those crappy pics, sorry! ) and is very lightweight. To my ears it has a nicely balanced overall sound. Though I intend to change the string type and gauge once I use the two extra sets that my mom sent with it, which I think will make it play even nicer, which at this point is all +'s
