rather: the vintage mini hum only comes in 2 conductor as far as i know, and that's what mine is. it's just wired bridge, bridge & neck, neck...nothing fancy there...just great tones!

So I guess you get hum in the middle position, since you've got three coils engaged. If it were possible, I was thinking of this:

Switch down: bridge only
Switch middle: bridge + front coil of neck
Switch up: both coils of neck

Would SD make me a 4 conductor vintage mini hum if I asked for it? And even if they could, is this something I would want? I have no idea how mini hums sound split.

Thanks again for the info!

Re: A classy strat rebuild...

You've inspired me to get a cover without holes for my next guitar. I usually don't like pickup covers but that guitar looks awesome. I'm going to get a black one from ebay.

Re: A classy strat rebuild...

nope, there is no hum...it's a mini humbucker not a single coil so there is no hum to begin with. and i think the custom shop can make a custom 4 conductor if you wanted but it would be a bit of a waste i think for the price it would cost.

i love the look of the solid covers...kind of a modern twist on a classic look.

How should I set the screw polepieces? I have a row of allen screws and slotted screws (like a Screamin Demon).

Re: A classy strat rebuild...

with both pickups i put solid covers on (this breed and a custom custom before it) i just set the poles down flush with the bobbins then stuck the cover on as far as it would go, soldered it in place and wax potted the pickup and i was set. to make up for the slightly lower poles i just raise the pickup up a tiny bit and all is good!

Re: A classy strat rebuild...

I understand that the mini humbucker has no hum on its own, but when you combine it with the bridge single coil, you will get noise. Unless your bridge is a stack or a humbucker, it will be adding noise with the switch in the middle position.

With my wiring scheme, the idea is for the front coil of the mini and the single coil of the bridge to cancel the hum, just like a standard S/S Tele would, in the middle position. To do this, I would need a 4 conductor cable.

If it's impractical or too expensive, I will stick with the standard Tele wiring.

Re: A classy strat rebuild...

oh, i gotcha DOH :smack: ...my teles all have single coil sized humbuckers in them (hot rails) so i wasnt thinking about normal teles lol.
