A couple Line 6 Amplifi/Firehawk/HD500X questions

Hello,

I was interested in several of Line 6's newest modeling technologies but I had some question that i thought you guys might be able to answer:

  1. With the Amplifi 75/150 amps and the Amplifi TT, do I need to buy one of L6's FBV footswitches (which are spendy) to toggle effects onstage without having to pull out my phone, or do any other footswitches from other manufacturers work?
  2. Are the Amplifi 75/150, the Amplifi FX100, and the Amplifi TT pretty much the same thing inside, but one has speakers built in, the other has switches and an expression pedal built in, and the last one is really small, or do they have different processing powers and different customization options?
  3. The Line 6 website seems to say that the Firehawk and 500X each have 29 different amp models, the Amplifi 75/150 through its app has 70+ amp models, and the Amplifi FX100 has "Over 200 amps, effects and speaker cabinets." How can this be if the Firehawk and HD500X are each more expensive than the Amplifis (I'm guessing they are counting dirty channels as a different amp), and how many amp models does each product really have?
  4. Similarly, how many effects does each product really have?
  5. What are the differences between the Amplifi FX100 floorboard/modeler and the more expensive Firehawk floorboard/modeler other than additional buttons?
  6. How are the Amplifi and Firehawk Remote apps any different?
  7. Do I have to use a PA or home audio system to play sound in a room through the FX100, TT, or Firehawk, or can I go from one of their outputs to a normal guitar cab? And do I need another amplifier to power a cab if I want to go that route, or can I go directly from the L6 floorboard to the cab and hear good sounds?

I know this is a lot of questions, but if you could help answering just one, it would be quite helpful. Thanks!

1. Yes, you do. It does not have a Midi accessible connection, and in fact, you can't even connect a Pod to do channel switching for you as well. You have to have the FBV.
2. They are all the same in terms of processing power. The FX100 has all the switches built in, but you must connect an external device to hear it. The Amplifi TT excels over the other three, in that you can use it as an interface for your computer and your guitar to record with.
3. The Firehawk was supposed to be the step up between the Amplifi series and the PODs, intended to take the place of the HD300 and 400's that are no longer in production. It has a lot of the power that the HD500X has, but it lacks a lot of the functionality that the POD has, in terms of ports and switching ability (if you had an amp with MIDI, you could use the POD for channel switching for example, in addition to switching effects). The Pod HDX series has 29 amps, 17 cabs, and 106~ effects (may have lost count). The Amplifi series appears to count dirty and clean channels as separate amps. Without having the list in front of me, I have no idea what each actually has. It's worth noting that while the Pod and Firehawk may have fewer amps, they have much better sounding amps built in.

5. Additional connectivity and higher quality effect and amp modeling.
6. They're probably the exact same, save the effects and amp available.
7. You would need a power amplifier or PA system of some kind as none of these systems have a power amp built in.
