A Few More Goodies For My 50 Watt Marshall

The same exact 50/50 MFD caps Marshall currently uses in their Handwired Marshalls....The bigger sized ARS filter caps! They sure look like the LCR caps?

Looks good buddy...when you get done the whole amp withh be brand new!

It's brand new now actually.....The amp currently has the blue F&T caps that I Put into my amp in 2003.....I guess I'm thinkin bigger is better....With filter caps normally it's true....

It was Christian but it alot better now in many ways! It's a pleasure to work on and tweak now mainly and the sole reason for going PTP with it....It really has great tone...Just like what I've heard on the records or from a great live tone...It's that good..I just can't realistically crank er up...

The PIMV is ok......Just ok though? I did upgrade to the 100 watt Mass today though...A smart move,appreciate you telling me about that!

Just curious as to where you got those ARS caps, as I'm looking to recap a couple of amps. The F&T's and JJ's seem decent, though I've heard the ARS's are supposed to be the best.

Really...I have talked to several guys that swear that a PPIMV is as good if not better than an attenuator (Trace from Voodoo included...) but I have never done the test's myself. ON a relate note I went ahead and orderd a Weber Mass today...the deal I was working on fell through so I decided to pull the trigger!

Got them from a guy on E Bay called "The AmpMedic"....I did a search on E Bay the other day under "Marshall Amp" and happened upon these caps...I was going crazy looking for them upon seeing them on the new HW Marshall 1959 amp and then saw this guy selling them...He listed as having 24 to sell when I bought my 3.....

The PIMV mod on my amp is the one recommended by Trace with the dual 250K pot...It's ok,but I actually like cranking the amp up and not having to use the added PIMV mod....What I really hate with it right now(And I need to fix it)....Is the pot taper! All the changes occur in the last 1/4 part of the pot upon turning it CCW to get PI gain....I think I'm using an audio pot and need to change it to linear,then I'll be alot happier...When I change the filter caps,I'll swap to the 250K Dual Ganged L pot....Alot of guys like a combination of attenuator and PIMV.....I'll have to mess with that?

I'm hoping to just go back to the dual 220k bias splitter resistors and just getting what I want from the attenuator?

lol that guy is such a total ebay 'slickster' - he uses so many techniques to try and sell just a plain ordinary capacitor, he could probably sell glasses to a blind man :laugh2:

"..unlike those foreign made capacitors..." - what's wrong with high quality capacitors made in England or Germany (LCR/F&T)? Either he's trying to imply they're made somewhere they're not or he's trying to play on people's xenophobia.


I've just replaced some Ruby caps that went bad after only being a year old with high quality F&T ones, I like the F&T as they look vintage and blue. Most late 60's Marshall's I've seen with caps on top had short ones for the screens/mains and a tall one for the PI cap, so I might go with one of these ARS for the PI cap when I replace that. Thanks for sharing John!
