I have a Marshall 4x12 with 2 V30s and 2 Hellatones in an X pattern. The drummer of my band has been away for a while so we havent had practice. The loudest I've had my amp (Marshall 2203) is about 4.5 on the master, but the Hotplate is at about -20db. At that volume am I getting a somewhat accurate feel of the speakers? I was a little worried how the 120 watt cabinet would handle high gain from a 100 watt head. When I have practice I don't use the attenuator, I'm just asking so if I have to change anything in the next 2 weeks, I can. Thanks!

In my experience, attenuating more than 8-12dB has a significant impact on tone. You might be able to determine the basic character of the speakers but there's little doubt in my mind that the rig sounds much different that it will without attenuated.
Series, parallel, series/parallel. . .how it's wired it makes no difference as long as it's nothing too goofy (e.g., one speaker in series with the other 3 in parallel) and the speakers are all the same impedance. You're right that it's 120 W, total.lit31686 said:
