A few, two amps in stereo topics.

Re: A few, two amps in stereo topics.

iDig 2 amp setups. Pertaining to this topic somewhat, how does one get ones effects loop pedals going through both amps? I have axe->wah->tuner->OD->noise reduction->whirlwind ab->both amps up front, but only use one amp for effects loop. I know there's some thingamajig.

I was wondering the same thing, I figure you've gotta use the true stereo effects in the loop,
(stereo in & out effects only), and use the mono effects separately with a Y cable to both amps (or daisy chain them)

In my rig I'd have the TC HOF, TC Corona & H&K Rotosphere in the two effect loops,
then I'd run the CAE wah, Q-tron+ and Blue boy Deluxe into the front end of the amps

Re: A few, two amps in stereo topics.

it's why I got the POD HD. It has stereo amp setup in it. There's some good ones stock, but I have yet to mess around too much with making my own settings yet.

Re: A few, two amps in stereo topics.

Just run it in front, sounds better to me that way anyway.

This is why I want an AD140, to push low mids with that nasty Orange sound. I think pairing that with my Butcher's hairy upper mid will be ridiculous. And I could set them up for roughly the same gain level, kicking on an OD will put them in the same territory.

That's all fine if you're running distortion pedals before your time based effects, but if you're
using preamp distortion as in a D-clone it's better to use the loop for reverb & chorus etc

Otherwise you're distorting the reverb trails and turning it to mush rather than having the reverb
affect the already distorted signal

Most recording studios add reverb after the distorted signal for this reason

Re: A few, two amps in stereo topics.

When running 2 different amps you have to make sure the amplifier's outputs are in phase with each other. That's where the phase switch on your ABY comes in handy.

Re: A few, two amps in stereo topics.

I've ditched many a nice delay, reverb, chorus pedals cuz I was trying to put them in front and it sounded like a bag of smashed aszholes. Anyway, is there a pedal or not that can let me do both loops?

Re: A few, two amps in stereo topics.

Nothing much to say, except that i love to use my Thunderverb & 5150 is tandem with the help of a Radial Twin City A/B/Y box.

TH50 = vintage'y break up / 5150 = gritty clean . . . both LOUD !

Re: A few, two amps in stereo topics.

I've been running my Splawn Pro Mod and my Mesa Triple Rec together lately. The Splawn is a monster for mids so I just scoop the hell out of the Recto. They compliment each other quite well this way. It's been the sonic equivalent of two chicks at the same time so far. :P

ETA: And I've just been using my Boss Digital Delay to split my signal. It works quite well, because it doesn't add any extra hum. Plus, in stereo it produces a ping-pong delay, which is kinda fun.

That's a great little box...been using it for about 5 years now. But I also run another A/B/Y because I loved the stereo amp setup so much, now I'm running three amps. Man, I get monster tones, clean or overdriven.

Thanx Doc.

Been thinking of running my AB-165 Bassman as a 3rd amp.

Have not tried it yet.

I also 'might' add another amp to my family as early as mid-June . . . wink-wink !

Re: A few, two amps in stereo topics.

Rereading this thread makes me miss those duel lunchbox rigs I was running a few years ago. It also shows just how much your taste in tone changes in just a few years.
