i think the palladium comes close but maybe its just me, I dont want the hassle of changing pickups and am thinking a pedal might suffice to get as close as one can without changing the pickups. someone let me know what you think. p.s. it will be going on a strat
They are gently trying to tell you that a Strat is not the best guitar to use to try to get that sound.
However, an EQ pedal will get you much closer than perhaps most players realize. I would guess cut the highs, boost the lows & low mids, and start from there. Probably middle pickup.
It will never be the same exact sound but you can get into the same ballpark and possibly capture what you like about the ZZ Top sound.
My Duran Duran pedal is broken.
For the record, Billy Gibbons uses a huge, MIDI Controlled, rack multi EQ, with the express purpose of having each of his live guitars sound like Pearly Gates...![]()
