A Q about VHT cabs

Hey guys, I now completely own my VHT Fatbottom cab at a cool 150$.(Don't ask, dude was hesitant this long) The P50 speakers in it absolutely suck balls. Scratchy, seem to suck sustain, and are grainy. Works for downtuned rhythm but not standard playing and soloing. I have V30's in my Marshall I was thinking of putting in the VHT cab. Would this be a smart idea considering the VHT's construction is probably much better than the Marshall? Certainly looks that way inside it. I was also lookin at those Am. made speakers that are cheap for something like V30's. Warehouse speakers?

Well, celestions are one of the best speaker manufacturers as well as Eminence, so I wouldnt say putting those in a VHT would be a bad decision. Not sure why you think so.. Ive heard about those warehouse speakers, and all of the guys that tried them liked them. There was a big thread on it at another forum.. not sure which one though.

I ask because the strong bass from the V30's may not mix well with the strong bass qualities the cab has naturally.

I seriously doubt that. A good cab will have these qualities as you call them because it is well constructed, if we are talking about V30s. As they say, it is easier to dial things out rather than adding it.

If anything V30s have a tight bass response. I'd be more worried about flabby low-end if you were installing say G12T-75s. I don't think you'd have anything to loose by at least trying them out.

mesa's oversized cabs use V30's. I don't think these would be a bad idea.

The cabs are all lame. Marshall or Mesa cabs totally rape them. I don't know what it is about VHT cabs, but they sound really sterile and kind of spread your sound in only one spot. I dunno. You should probably sell that cab for more money and get a Mesa or something.

V30's would probably sound cool in there, but I don't think you'll totally get rid of that VHT tightness.

Try it for yourself if you have all the pieces...

Personally I've never had any problems with VHT speakers... on par with anything else really. Just different. Maybe you don't like the cab... better isn't always better.

You just answered the question. They spread your sound into one spot and that makes recording them easy as pie.

They seem to throw everything very forward instead of a little all around like my Marshall. But that's a good thing when it comes to managing volume and recording!

I was telling you the truth, LL.

They are totally different than Bogner or Splawn cabs. I'd take a Bogner or Splawn over a VHT any day. Vintage Marshall cabinets with Grey grillz do it for me.

Some people like the VHT thing, and others don't. After playing VHT cabs for a while, I can tell you that, lol, I hate them.

It's like, if that dude who has the VHT cab bought a Marshall cab with G75's, and posted about: "OMFG! this cab is all scooped and lame! I want sick low end and clarity!" I mean, lol, if you changed the speakers, it would sound a little different but the voicing would still sound similar. The same thing applies with these VHT cabs.

It's almost like this: you want your Marshall JCM800 to sound like a Recto. But will changing the tubes in your JCM800 to 6L6's make it sound like a Recto? Come on, tell me?
