A very rare NGD for me!

Re: A very rare NGD for me!

I have a variety of guitars
Each purchased for a specific reason
Some may be slight variations of a common theme
I see it as working towards an ideal

Almost there
Just two more and I should be closer

I love a Jazz in the neck btw

I would imagine the 59 has more of the PAF sound than the standard pairing of a JB

Maybe it started with two 59s
And they swapped to Jazz to change the boomyness

Re: A very rare NGD for me!

Well, it came in a gig bag, but I also got the nice TRIC case as well. It was ordered with the TRIC, but I was surprised to see the gig bag, too.

You know, I know they use the Jazz and Custom Custom...and hey, I reported on that! But the neck pickup is warmer than the typical Jazz, and the bridge doesn't sound as strong as a Custom Custom. I know these pickups well, as they are some of my favorites, But the wood might be an issue in changing the sound, who knows. When it is time to change strings, I will look at the pickups. I had a Seth Set on my desk waiting for this guitar, but I was surprised to see the Duncans (it comes stock with Godin-branded pickups). And these Duncans sound great. They just don't sound much like a Jazz and CC. Who knows?

I spent yesterday putting some strap locks on (stock Godin buttons are the same size as Schaller strap lock buttons). I realized a few things: The center block is not solid- it has arches carved out of it like a Roman aqueduct. Also, the bridge strap button is on a machine screw with metal insert.

CONGRATS!

Re: A very rare NGD for me!

You know, one of the reasons a NGD is so rare for me is that I get really attached to instruments, and I am very picky about the instruments I use. I hate switching guitars, and I am not a collector. I have a small batch (5? 6?) instruments that I use, and this Godin is the first one I bought to get a specific sound, which is that semi-hollow thing. That 'thump' is the sound I can't get from my other guitars.

I checked the YT videos and I’m quite impressed. I also liked the P90s version.

That's the thing- as spec'd, this model comes with Godin-branded imported humbuckers. Mine didn't, but they knew I wrote for SD, and did an arie about them. Maybe that had some sway, who knows.

Re: A very rare NGD for me!

I'm surprised they didn't go with a Custom Custom in the bridge like they do with the MP Supreme. They do put a 59 bridge in the Core HB and some of the Summit models.

Re: A very rare NGD for me!

I think a Custom Custom would be better in the bridge. The 59 sounds a little like all the mids got sucked out (like it is supposed to).

Re: A very rare NGD for me!

congrats on the new guitar!

I really like Godins, even though I don't own one. I sort of became aware of them after I had most of my guitars, so some of the niches they would have filled were already occupied.

I played a Montreal at my local shop, and fell in love. Tried to work something out, but then it got sold.

I think they are a very innovative company. they also seem to focus on jazz sponsorships. I've been to a number of concerts/shows where people are playing more "out there" music here in Canada and they are often playing Godins. I think they are probably smart targeting niche ends of the market, rather than the mainstream. They've always sounded great in those venues, but then again, everyone I've seen with one is a monster player who could probably sound good with a 60's Sears guitar!

A 59 and a Jazz seems like a potentially cool combo. I wouldn't be too quick to swap them out. A little tweaking might give you a pretty unique voice. I put a slash set in a Lucille, and it worked out surprisingly awesome ( I got them cheap and thought, what the hell, let's try this.)

I dig the focus on jazz and 'out there' stuff, since that is sort of what I do. Their designs aren't totally crazy, but refined from classic lines. I am really starting to like these pickups, as well as A5-based pickups in semi-hollows. I still dig the A2s in solidbodies. The Jazz is sounding wonderful here, and I have a little work to adjust the 59, since I am not as familiar with that pickup.

Cool guitar man, I worked for Godin for years & can attest to their quality!!!

I’m actually thinking about tossing some A5 based humbuckers into my Semi-Hollow (Gibson ES-139 in my case) as well. Right now it’s still loaded with the stock 57 Classic’s which I typically hate but in this particular guitar they aren’t too awful. I’ve also got a LP Special loaded with a SH-16/WLH Neck set that I’m considering selling. If I do get rid of it I’ll probably switch the pickups around as I think the SH-16 & WLH will work great in the ES-139 & you never recover your mod money from installing aftermarket pickups...

Re: A very rare NGD for me!

Congrats on the NGD and enjoy her in good health.

Oh, and Happy New Guitar Day :headbang:
