Re: A way to man's heart is NOT......
Sooo...the good, the bad, and the ugly....
we'll start with ugly
1) it's a little too clownburst, tho the pics accentuate it. Not as bad as my CSB ML79 or Epi SpaceAce were though.
bad....
1) Tone control is acting up today...cutting in and out.
2) It's got some abuse in the store. On the upper part of the rear "horn" it's got a pretty good chip taken out...down to the wood...about the size of a dime I'd guess. Let's the wood breathe better though :bigthumb:

Got some marks on the neck from I guess the stand hanger interacting with the poly? I think they can be buffed out. can't feel it though. doesnt affect anything
3) Got a couple of swirls/raised sections in the poly. Din' see 'em til I got home, but not a big deal to me. You gotta look real close
4) Binding on the high E side at the end of the fretboard is a little chewed off
5) Pup selector is too tight...usually the opposite is true. PITA to flip over real quick.
6) uhm...its heavy. I mean... like 10 pounds heavy
7) one screw on the control plate on the back is stripped
Basically this thing was beat up at the local Sam @$$
OK the good...
1) Resonance is like the Destroyer or better. I mean this SOB really shakes your gut, and you can feel the vibration in the neck. It responds to your playing. I guarantee it doesn't get the precise neck joint work like a USA Hamer dos, but its got the big massive dovetail type joint.
2) Its heavy. Super stable feeling. Like a good MIA guitar. Doesn't feel like an import. Feels alot like my White Gibson Explorer, but a couple pounds heavier.
3) nice piece of rosewood. Reminds me of my firebird or my Edwards. Not your typical MIK/MIC nasty rosewood.
4) Frets are great. Both how they are polished, and how they feel. Again, more like a MIJ than a MIK/MIC.
5) Loud acoustic tone, and NOT dark. Very even toned. Perhaps cos it's alder. Not quite as full as the Destroyer but close.
6) best cut MIK/MIC nut I've ever seen.
7) Best looking import trap inlays I've seen. Compare them with the crap inlays on my Tokai and Edwards
8) Duncan Designs sound fantastic. Clear. Warm. Full. Even more surprising.. I *gasp* LOVE LOVE LOVE the JB in this guitar!! I'm seriously thinking of just putting a USA JB in the bridge, but I'd like something a bit hotter/fuller in the neck...maybe a PGn. Though I've gotta say I like the Jazz in this guitar too. A Mustaine set would not be out of the question, though the color wouldn't look good.
9) It cost me 50 smackers less than a Dean 79 series :chairfall
10) Big fat neck (looks to be maple, tho Hamer specs Alder). Dang near your typical Hamer USA carve. Think PRS McCarty or production 50s from Gibson.
I also played a few other guitars. I originally went looking for a semi-hollow (well after I realized they didn't have any amps I'd want), but didn't see what I was looking for (that Ibby AS103). I played a LTD Mustaine V :bigthumb: and a PRS singlecut import, which was impressive as well for an import. Singlecut was really resonant and played like butter. But this Hamer won out for tone and playability.
