A3 in a Seth ?

Thames

Great White Malice
Well.. speaking of A3 magnets....

I do like the Seth Lovers in my LP, but I'd like something with a tad more sparkling highs...

Is the A3 the way to go ? Or maybe an A5, but Im afraid it might be too bright with these pickups....

Re: A3 in a Seth ?

A3 should work.

If you go with A5, you might just get an unpotted 59 (or close to it).

Another thing to consider would be the Pearly Gates. I've had the Seth's, PG's, and an Alnico II loaded 59 in the same LP and I like the PG's better than the Seth's (not by much, though ;) ).

With the PG's, there's more cut, the neck position is a bit more open and less "creamy" and the bridge position barks more under gain.

Re: A3 in a Seth ?

Thames,

I would go with the A3 first, and see if it does the trick. The A5 might make it too bright. The great thing that the Seth has going for it (aside from being a tonally phenomenal pup) is that it retains it's mids. This will help balance the increased highs of the A3,4, or 5 magnets.

Good luck,

Jeff

Re: A3 in a Seth ?

My main setup for quite a while was an uncovered Seth neck with an A3 magnet and an uncovered Ant bridge with an A5 magnet.

Yeah.. I might try removing the covers first.. then I'll judge.

I always wanted to try out some PG's.. I should find someone to trade 'em *temporarily*, just in case I dont like 'em.... anybody's willing ?

MRID, how did the Seth bridge sound with a A-5?

My opinion was to lightly pot the bridge to make it more blunt, but leave the A-2 in it, and put the A-3 in the neck.

I really liked it, especially with my amp cranked. The cleans weren't as sweet as with the aged A2 magnet, but they still had a nice character to them.
