A8 PAF!

Re: A8 PAF!

+1 ,, I changed out the A2 in a PGb to a polished UOA5 and it was unreal how much better the sound and tone was.

Absolutely. No PU is going to sound great in every wood and guitar design. I prefer an A3 in my PGN. A5's can be a bit bright and scooped, A2's can have an overly-rounded high-end, A8's can have too much output, A4's EQ can be too balanced, UOA5's can be too warm, etc. Whatever needs to be twaeked, there's probably a magnet that can get what you want, or darn close. The point is to try a couple and see. You can go from 'good' to 'great'. What better feeling is there than saying: 'I never knew it could sound like that!'

Re: A8 PAF!

And double +1 about changing magnets. I've heard some pitiful excuses given, by grown men! If you don't change magnets either: A) you're very lucky and your PU's perfectly align with your wood to give the exact tones you want in all your guitars, B) you settle for tones you're not thrilled with, or C) you buy and sell PU's and/or guitars in an attempt to somehow stumble across a pairing that sounds the way you want, which can be expensive. The best advice on this forum is: 'Work with what you have before you give up on it' and 'Understand your guitar and take control of your tone.' The better you sound, the better you play.

I don't have anything against swapping magnets, but there are a lot of people on this forum who make suggestions about swapping magnets prematurely. It gets tiresome. Why change magnets when adjusting pickup height will work? Sometimes the wrong pots are in the guitar and people are jumping on the bandwagon for a magnet swap. I really wonder sometimes if people even read what the OP writes sometimes, and that is not restricted to those advocating magnet swaps.

Re: A8 PAF!

is it possible to put smaller A2 AND A8 in the same bucker? You guys have investigated some cool results in magnetic 'chemistry'
