are you talking the stock epiphone humbuckers? if so they are ok but nothing special. the neck is fairly vintage sounding, not good vintage sounding like a paf but along those lines. the bridge version is a little hotter than vintage but not as hot as a distortion type humbucker.

you could play all those styles with the pups but there are other options that would sound better. if it was my guitar for those styles i would put a sh1 59n in the neck and a sh5 custom in the bridge. classic les paul neck tones and hotter more modern bridge tones that are still usable for lots of styles

+1 to that. I have that exact combo in my LP, and can play nearly any style with it.

i will never say no to any one putting a pearly gates bridge in a les paul, love that pup :D

that could be a cool combo in a dark guitar, not classic les paul tone from the neck but very usable

I went with SH-55's in both posn's of my Epi LP Standard and love them. Not hot pickups by any means but they allow the true sound of the guitar to the amp I think. Then the amp takes care of distortion required. I use it wiyth a Valveking 100 so not really super high gain amp by any means. However since the pickups are not potted I find if I do set gain too high I can get a bad microphonic squeel. The pickupsthemselves definately make me think while I play as they seem to pick up your playing, nothing to mask sloppiness. Which is good for me as I am no guitar god by any stretch of teh imagination. In a nutshell they make me want to play more so I can only improve.
