About how much do you pay to have a guitar

Re: About how much do you pay to have a guitar

The answer depends on several factors.
1) How much of the original finish needs to be removed?
2) What type of new finish is going to be applied?
3) How many coats of paint and/or clear coat are required?
4) Is the new finish then going to be given the "Relic" treatment?
5) How thoroughly do you expect the new finish to be dried before your instrument is re-assembled and returned to you?

Think - materials plus labour plus the overheads of running a properly controlled paint workshop plus a little respect for the luthier.

i stripped off all the finish, but it needs to be re-sealed in some places where i sanded through to bare wood.
i'd just like to get the sealer, and then a base coat. if the base coat needs a primer, then that too.
no clear coat, because i will be painting my own design on top of the base

It doesn't matter that you sanded it, it will still need sanding work and if you we to bare wood in some places and not all it will for sure need to be sanded further.

I also don't know of any places that will do a refin and leave off the clear coat but maybe...

Past that it just depends on the type of guitar, type of paint, etc...

A refin can run $200 to $2000.

I've been shopping lately for a few projects, and it seems like about $275 to $450 is about what you can expect to pay.

Are you thinking Poly or Nitro?
